As others have said, the string broke off our rods immediately. While they seemed to spend the manufacturing money on the fishing rod style handle, they really cheaped out on the rest. I think most people will find the very cheap kite materials (rods, strings and kite) not worth the money, and the handle form factor annoying (and because it broke within 5 minutes of using it, very faulty manufacturing) I would suggest you do not buy this kite.

Purchased for my 3 year old grandson, who loves the kite. His brother is 5 and also has one. Easy to use, no batteries, no assembly, quality product made in the USA and it provides lots of fun.Great product!!

The kite is made of nylon which is a definite improvement upon the plastic ones but it is not a very durable nylon. I could see the start of fraying around the string holes. The casting part did help my young kids and I have success in flying the kite but it took me awhile to figure out how to get the string to release (the instructions could use some diagrams) which I think is one of the main reasons to buy this kite. Once we did figure it out, it sometimes released well and sometimes needed some wiggling and tugging . It would also be nice if the rods fit more snugly into the kite-they came loose a lot for us. We also had the string come unattached which wasn't a big deal but sort of surprising to have to reattach it after hardly any use.

The spool kite is an interesting concept. It is definitely easier for my kids to hold than a normal kite spool, but it can also seem a little tedious when you have let the kite spool all of the way out. Interesting concept. It is a lot like a cat toy I used to have, so if we decide that we don't like this for a kite string, we will tie a stuffed mouse to the end and torment the cat with it.

So much fun and it flew beautifully!

This is a rather innovative design. It's really easy to hold, and no chance of getting a "string burn" on your fingers. The spindle automatically locks, so your string will not go wild. If you need to wind up or pay out some string, you just press a button on the top to release the spindle.The handle has a robust "truss style" construction out of what appears to be tough plastic. It's not that cheap toy plastic, but something more like "bakelite" but with a nice glossy finish.The string is 150 feet. This is fine for kids, but as an adult, I kind of wish there was a 300'+ version. I might try to load it with longer string later.The package touts that the handle is made in the USA, which is rare these days. The info included in the package lets you know this is a family-run business and a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing defects. It's nice to know that if you happen to get a bad one, they will stand behind it. Though the design is so simple yet tough, I can't imagine it breaking unless you ran it over with your car.The included kite is really just a starter. Nothing fancy and basic quality. I think it's just added to get you started in case you are buying this and don't currently have a good kite. This kite is a good size for a small child to handle.

This is a fun addition to kite flying. It is great for anyone but especially your younger kids that have not mastered the unwinding and winding of the kite string. This makes it much easier for them, which makes for a lot more fun for everyone. Definitely buy one for each of your kids so that everyone has one and no one is jealous of how easy it is to fly a kite with this product. If you live somewhere with mild winters this would make a great Christmas present for all the kids, and then they would have a fun outside activity to burn off their extra energy. Great to take on a picnic also and have some fun entertainment!

I give this kite 5 stars because of the ease in which we can control the kite! It makes kiting so much more enjoyable for my younger children. I have three kids and they are all fighting over who gets to hold the kite reel. I should have bought more! The kite itself is normal quality, but this can be exchanged for different kite if you want. This is a must have have for younger children.
