Beautiful!
I bought this to read to my Kindergarteners. We read most of the stories and they enjoyed them all. The artwork is beautiful and I think the stories are well-written. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful Pictures!
I love this book! We had it when our kids were little and it got worn out over the years. We got rid of it after they grew up, but my daughter decided to see if Amazon had it because she was talking about it the other day. She specifically remebered that she would often flip through the book just to look the pictures becuase they were so detailed and pretty. This book is beautifully illustrated, and the classic stories are fun to read! Can't wait to read it with the grandkids!

The child within you will surface and the youngster beside you will glow!
My first attraction to this breathtaking book was the beautifully designed cover illustrated by one of my favorite artists by the name of Scott Gustofson, who is featured throughout the inside of this handsome treasure along with sixteen other remarkable artists who's artful paintings flow through the pages of this masterpiece that will continue be a part of a child's life forever. All of the unforgettable nursery rhymes, poems and stories we all know so well where chosen with great thought which created this special collection of art and literature. Small hands will be eager to turn all 303 pages as the stories unfold at the same time enjoying the brilliant artwork that perfectly accompany each treasured tale. Remember Hansel & Gretel? Remember Rumpelstiltskin? And don't forget The Frog Prince. These are just a few of the favorite stories attached to the pages that will spark the mind of a child and bring back fantastic memories of the old but young at heart. This masterpiece will attract the attention of all ages and be passed around for generations to come. This wonderfully mastered book of beautiful artwork and classic storytelling is not to be left off anybody's book self that enjoys a great fable mingled with fantastically illustrated paintings. When this book touches your hands, the child inside will surface and the youngster beside you will truly glow. A Treasury of Children's Literature is a well-deserved title.

All the essentials are here
This is a wonderful collection of traditional tales and verses that every child should know. This collection contains the longer, more detailed versions of the traditional stories, so it's not for smaller children with very short attention spans. The traditional American tales are more like short-story length. The book is beautifully illustrated and it is great to have all these tales in one book. I am very pleased with this purchase and look forward to getting much use out of this book as my son gets older.

Worth the buy!
This book holds lots of fairytales and not only that, but small short stories for children. My intentions were to read this book to my baby and hopefully one day he will be able to read it himself. The stories included in the book are classics told from many years and will forever be everlasting.

Beautiful drawings - not like other modern "cartoonish" illustrations.
Fairy tales should be accompanied by beautiful time-less pictures. These are . Bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter. Such a pleasure to read the stories to her. These drawings inspire her imagination. Scenes aren't limited to "stick-figure" like images. Just what I was looking for.

A wonderful slice of culture
I had been searching for a book that had a good collection of fairy tales and nursery rhymes that I could read to my sons. As soon as I would find something I thought I would like, I discovered that it was either lacking in the number of stories it held or the pictures were dull.I was so glad to find this book. It has it all! I especially love that there's a little slice of everything: traditional stories (e.g., Little Red Riding Hood, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Beanstalk), short Aesop's Fables (The Ant and the Grasshopper, The tortoise and the Hare), Grimm's fairy tales (Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, The Frog Prince), Mother Goose nursery rhymes, some slices of classic children's stories (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Peter Pan), American tales (Br'er Rabbit, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry), The Night Before Christmas, and some Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales (The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl, The Emperor's New Clothes). The only story I'm not sure if I'm fond of how it is retold would be Brer Rabbit and the Tar-Baby as it is written thusly: "Real early one mornin', when Ol' Mister Sun was still gittin' hisself some shut-eye, Brer Fox went to work and got hisself some tar, and he mix it wid some turpentine, and fix up a contraption what he call a Tar-Baby." I realize that it's a retelling and the original story was passed down orally (as were most of the stories in the book). Being a minority, I'm just not sure how I feel about it being written down as it was. But that's neither here nor there. The book, on a whole, is excellent. I'm currently reading it to my 3-year-old and he loves it! There are colorful pictures on almost every page and the stories are traditionally told. I highly recommend this aptly named treasury of children's literature!
