⭐⭐🐞❤️😈😀Cool Book, Awesome Read 😀😈❤️🐞⭐⭐
I decided to read this book on a whim, as I vaguely remembered in the past I read the two following books but never read the first in the series, ie, "What Katy Did".I enjoyed it so much that I didn't realise that I had come to the end of the book when I reached it! I think that's what connoisseurs call an "unputdownable" though I read it at the end of the day over I think a week, give or take. This book was first written in 1872 by Susan Coolidge. It's about 12-year-old Katy Carr who lives in Burnet, Ohio. She's a real tomboy and is ever getting into scrapes and is a real tearaway. She and her siblings, Clover, Elsie, Dorry, Johnnie and Phil and Katy's friend Cecy play together and go to school together. Dr Carr, a widower, is Katy and her siblings's father, their mother having died. Therefore, Aunt Izzie looks after everyone, and the children often disobey her. The crux of the story happens when Katy is in a mood the whole day and despite being warned by Aunt Izzie not to go on a new swing as it isn't safe, she does and falls and injures her back. She is bedridden for many months. Cousin Helen, another invalid, who Katy holds dear advises Katy to change for the better, despite her illness, and tells a story of I think God guiding her. Katy changes by gradual measure and once Aunt Izzie dies of typhoid, she takes over the running of the house. Miraculously, she starts to walk again and the New Katy is kind, gentle, calm and graceful.Which leads us to the next in the series, "What Katy Did At School" which I am currently reading, which I got free from Amazon.in as I think it was a promotion.Cool book, awesome read, and can be read again.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5 stars

Such a treasure!
Reading this to my children and this is such a treasure. I only have boys and they love it; it is great for either gender. It teaches such wonderful lessons and has initiated fabulous discussions.

Dated and overly moralistic
The language, story and themes of the book are very dated. Not an easy reading for young kids and too moralistic and tedious for teenagers.

Lovely book
I bought this to take to my twin grand daughters when I next see them so re-read it before doing so. It was great comfort reading for me as I have not been well (!) and just as good as I remembered from my childhood
