Very quick to print and good quality
I am upgrading from an old Canon pixma printer and have read many good things about the Brother brand. For a home-office setup this is a great little printer. My initial thoughts:1. Speed of printing - this is much quicker than I expected. Not just the physical speed of the printing but the total time taken from pressing print on the computer to the paper coming out is < 3 seconds. I was used to my Canon doing the usual wakeup dance every time but this Brother printer from standby seems to be ready to print almost immediately. Very impressed.2. Quality - this is good for what it is. Don't expect photo printing but that's not what it is advertised for. For documents and general prints this will be all the printer that you need.3. Setup - quite a mixed bag actually. I was hoping setup would be more straight forward than it ended up being. My main issue is that once you download the app, and go to the Wireless printer setup page, you are presented with an automatic setup process. However this printer model appears not to support the automatic recognition and the app isn't particularly user friendly in letting you know that. So what you have to do is wait ~1min for the automatic recognition to fail e.g. ("no printer found") and then wait another ~1m for the overall setup to fail before being presented with the option of doing a Manual setup (where you are asked to input the printer model number).Being the impatient type that I am, I ended up wasting 20mins or so trouble shooting why the automatic device recognition wasn't working. I wish the app would have just let me know that I need to wait / give users the option to just skip to manual registration.

No USB cable and a pain to set up.
Set it up, yesterday, and what a pain that was. I got there eventually but it wasn't easy. Then the black ink wasn't printing properly and I had to get ChatGPT to walk me though how to fix it. And to top it all off it says you can use it using Wi-Fi or USB. There is no USB cable provided and it's not a simple A to A or A to Micro B or even an A to C, which we all have lying about the house. No, it's a B2.0 or B3.0 which most of us won't have.Using it seems to be simple enough, I haven't tried printing from everything yet but I can't see any problems. With the paper feed under the printer it keeps everything tidy and hidden away.

Works very well
Have had this a month and I’m very impressed with how this printer works, it’s quick to print, easy to add the paper & ink . Works like a dream, super happy by far better than my previous HP printer.

BEWARE
UPDATE:Originally loved this printer, but it BROKE in exactly one month. We only used it once!!Just stopped printing with ink still in the cartridges, paper in the pan, no errors. It just stopped working, only shooting blanks. RETURNED.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fabulous upgrade to my old Canon printer, which I had for over 7 years. The Canon was was okay, but a bit fussy, and went through MASSES of ink. This one came with huge ink cartridges, the paper tray holds A LOT of paper and the scanner works great. It works fine with my old printer cable (to connect the laptop to the printer- obviously it doesn't come with one), and no work at all to set it up. It just worked.Scans are great, and it prints really fast. Of course, I haven't tried the wifi printing, yet, but I may do in the future (haven't had the need yet) In which case, maybe I'll leave an update to this review. In any case, the Brother printer works fab with my macbook air.The Brother DCP-J1200W was a bit expensive even on sale, but I think it will be worth it in the end.Soooooooo pleased.

Need a download on PC from brother website and app on mobile device
Delighted with it. Really good product. Packaging was good. Delivery was fast. It took me a little while longer than “the easy set up” that they illustrate and I think the instructions could be a little more clearer, but then I am an elderly woman so maybe it would be simpler for a young person. Have had a brother laser printer before so I hope it all runs smoothly!

Good standard print but bad for photos
Really good home printer for "normal" plain printing like shopping list or flight tickets.Where the printer fails miserably is printing on photo paper - 80% of the time it thinks there is no paper and you have to fiddle quite a few times for it to actually print. The quality is very good once actually done, but 3 start (down from 4) because it uses so much very expensive ink > 15 photo prints and all ink gone.Next time I will shop around more before making a decision.
