Good line
This is an easy thing to install, as long as you choose the right location and time of year to knock the spike into the ground. Ideally, choose a dull day following rain as the ground will be softer and the spike should go in more easily. The line comes with the ground spike (with red cover so you can stop rain water or other stuff entering when the line isn’t there and also find the hole again more easily) and also a zip-up cover. The line goes up very easily and with a choice of heights and there is a clip that ensures it doesn’t collapse down again. Taking the line down is just a matter of disengaging the clip and allowing the line to drop down. Putting up and taking down is therefore easy, straightforward and should not be taxing for most users,The cover ensures the line stays clean and dry between uses and it is a good fit with just the right amount of space. The zip runs well and can be opened or closed one handed. The whole thing is light enough to be moved as required and sufficiently stable to leave in place as well. Best of all, it is large enough to hold loads of laundry and with enough space between each line to allow enough air flow for everything to dry.

Looks great. Takes loads of laundry
60m version. It's huge and seems solidly built. Also was worried that it might be a bit of an ugly addition to the garden but it has an elegance about it. I hit the issues with the ground spike that everyone talks about. Did the cross with the spade as deep as I could. Didn't wet the ground as suggested in other reviews (not sure if that was suggested in the instructions) but tried to be careful but it still wound up leaning over about 70° to the ground which was a little disappointing. Not sure this is a fault. Other than digging a huge hole how exactly are you supposed to drive a spike that long in straight? Also some reviews say the spike is too short e.g. 6 inches. The one I got was not 6 inches. It was much longer. Easily 12 inches or more. Maybe it depends on the size as to how long the spike is.In any case I had a bright idea to fix it. Grabbed my electric drill and a very long large diameter masonry bit (the kind you use to drill a hole for a pipe through an external wall) and drove it into the ground alongside and around the fins of the spike to soften the earth and break any rocks around it on the side I wanted it to move towards. Then was able to just gently pull it straight using the drier (holding it right at the bottom so as not to bend it). Packed some soil into the gaps left. It's now completely straight. Total setup time about 20-30 minutes. Definitely easier than digging or concreting if you have a big drill. The bit I used I got off amazon too some time ago and was not expensive. It's roughly 60 cm long and maybe 20mm diameter but anything as long or longer than the spike would do it.

Derecho-Proof
Brabantia is a well respected European brand and I was confident in purchasing this washing line that the quality would be good. So far I have not been proven wrong; I love my washing line, or whirligig as we call it. Its sturdy. Its big enough for sheets and duvets. Its easy to put up (and take down). It came with a handy clothes peg bag and cover. We were recently hit with a derecho and I had no time to get outside and take it down. It handled it like a champ and stayed put in the ground. Very happy and wish I had got this years ago.
