Q: Does the heel strap need to be "reinforced" with duct tape, according to many of the comments ?

They are pretty sturdy, but it's a hard plastic button keeping the foamy plastic strap on. Eventually, with wear, the hole will stretch out and the only way to really fix it, would be to glue or tape it. I think at that point, new shoes.

Q: Help me understand something. Why do “garden” clogs have ventilated tops? Mine fill with dirt if I wear them while gardening.

Because, from experience, most people garden in the summer, and these are rubber shoes, so you sweat a lot. It would actually get slimy in there without the ventilation… lots of times you get very dirty and this allows you to completely wash the shoes off with the hose and let them air dry. I always wear mine with bare feet. Then I rinse them with a hose and rinse my feet at the same time. I love that they are ventilated actually.

No they don’t have quimical smell

Q: is the insole bumpy--the section that the bottom of the foot meets the shoe?. My feet are super sensitive on the bottom.

I have neuropathy in my feet making them super sensitive. I buy these one size larger. The bottom cushion with bumps is so comfortable! I bought two more pair I loved them so much.
