love this color
Great knife, I love the color and the quality of the knife. I learned about this brand from the boy scout reddit group. This closure mechanism is super easy to use and safer in my mind than others. The feel of the handle fits my hand so well, The fact they have different sizes is perfect. The blade is very durable in stainless and holds its edge very well.

I like it
First off, let me start by saying I am not a big Opinel fan, and have been on the edge about whether I wanted to buy one to try or just not bother mainky because I hear people compliment them all the time and how great they are for such a cheap price. I collect pocket knives of all value (except the extreme ones over 200+... I just cannot justify a $200+ pocket knife for any reason) my most expensive knife is either a Spyderco/Benchmade (forgot which costs the most but each are well up past $160) and I barely tske them out to use, but when I do they do not disappoint. My normal EDC knives are that of a spyderco tenacious, a Rat 1 or 2, that cheap $10 usa flag punisher knife from MTech, or a kershaw of some sort. For work I use a victorinox or a civivi elementum as well as my tenacious and RAT models. So to compare Opinel to them... I just didn't think it would be as good. Well, Opinel surprised me by coming out in a nice colorful pattern and after buying my wife a purple Opinel 07, I got the blue 08 to try. By all means do not tske my opinion the wrong way, for its pricepoint this knife is pretty good, especially for someone getting a knife for the first time, it is an awesome entry level knife. The blade is sharp, not very, but enough that I sliced paper and was pleased with stabbing a carboard box a few times rather easily. The color makes me enjoy this knife a little more and the fact that I can do daily activities with this knife should I choose and not be sad if let's say it chipped, broke or got lost, I would say it is definitely work the less than $20 pricetag. However, I am wishing I went with the Opinel 09 or bigger for the extra blade and handle, but it is in no way the fault of the knife. Overall, i really like this knife and plan to use it as a beater knife, knowing I can always get the normal wood handle version for cheaper makes it that much sweeter. If you're looking into a gift, an entry knife or just something unique, give it a try. It may surprise you as it has me.

Thin, slicey blade - light carry
The blade is easy to sharpen and it shows 1.6 ounces on my postal scale. The blue is great and I use it for day hiking. No pocket clip so it goes in my front waist pocket on my pack.......it is a 2 hand opener and closer with the unique lock ring.

Quality pocket knife.
I bought 3-4 of these. These are well made. The package says made in China and the actual blade says made in France. So I don't know where its actually made. These are very simple, cleverly made knives. They sharpen up nice, fit in your pocket nicely, look nice and make great gifts. Blade isn't real thick and the knife isn't bulky. Buy one.

Great Classic Functional Pocket Knife
This knife harkens back to another time. If you're looking for high tech gadgetry then look elsewhere. This knife does everything a pocket knife should be called upon to do. I like that you can lock it open, closed or not at all. This is versatility offering a freedom of choice and I personally like that. The upgrade from carbon steel to stainless steel in this model only adds to the appeal through a modern convenience by retaining the edge retention but eliminating the extra care required of a carbon steel blade (rust protection). The unique and proven locking collar is simple but effective. And the stained wood handle is visually appealing and a weight saver (total knife weight ~1.6oz.) making it all but disappear in your pocket as it won't weigh you down. I do want to say that my knife was also stiff to open (especially the last 45 degrees) but rather than the rather cumbersome process described by other reviewers of using my oven etc, or the slow process of allowing it to wear in naturally (which is precisely the intent of Opinel) I applied 3 drops of Victorinox 4.3301 Swiss Army Knife Multi-tool Oil to the blade pivot area and it has loosened and smoothed out the opening action to perfection. If I were Opinel I would consider adding a grippy texture to the outer portion of the locking collar to ensure a better grip as it can be a bit challenging with wet/moist hands. I would say that this knife is not the best knife to use for cleaning animal or fish since the wood handle will soak up blood and locking collar seems prone to allowing fluid under it without an easy way to clean it. While I appreciate the adherence to the proven and celebrated design, just like I welcomed the introduction of a stainless steel blade I would equally welcome an improve gripping surface on the locking collar. I am not able to attest to the longevity of this knife as of yet since it is a new purchase, but if I should find any fault I will update this review. Quality control appears to have a wide acceptance since I have ordered 4 of these knives and each one varies in how easily the lock ring rotates from freely to requiring enough force that I wish it had a grippy surface.

Bin voll zufrieden damit!
