Tea is more than just a drink for the Russians. It's a social phenomenon. My boyfriend wanted to celebrate my heritage, as well as make sure that every cup of tea is a special occasion, thus, this cup. The quality is excellent. I've inherited a couple of tea sets from my great grandmother (we are talking "the old country") . All were made at the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory (now renamed back to Imperial). Porcelain itself is beautifully thin and is practically see-through. Handpainted design is gorgeous and I can almost hear that traditional Orthodox bell ringing. 22k gold accent is breathtaking but not gaudy. The handle is a little awkward for holding a full cup but not a deal breaker at all. Naturally, it doesn't belong in a dishwasher and I recommend promptly rinsing after each tea time to avoid staining.
