Can this train be used with duplo track purchased separately?

No. Not sure why people answer that don't know what they are talking about, but I bought this and then also 10882 and 10872 (both duplo train track sets) and the train doesn't fit.

What size are the individual pieces?

The playset measures over 3.5 in. (10 cm) high and 18.5 in. (47 cm) long and combines easily with other LEGO DUPLO sets to inspire even more imaginative play possibilities (looked up on target site 😅) Pretty big pieces though..I have a 2 year old and I'm not afraid of choking on them. My daughter loves it.
