The Cambridge History of the Second World War: Volume 3, Total War: Economy, Society and Culture

Really a great compact history of the second world war. Undoubtedly every major war has had significant effects on all aspects of a society but WW2 was probably the first where the social concerns were widely studied and continue to be studied.The economic parts are particularly good and for very serious readers an excellent start of further reading!
