Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad

Eye-Opener
This is a fascinating book. Not being especially well read in history my estimation of this book is based on an interest in intelligence operations. Names I've heard all my life, Rafi Eitan, Ben-Menashe, Yitzhak Rabin, Bibi Netanyahu, Shimon Peres, Menachem Begin, have more contextual association. The methods and rationale for Mossad operations, relationships to other intelligence organizations, the shocking betrayal of the US born Jonathan Pollard, this and more makes for a gripping read. Being a long-time Israel sympathizer I appreciate the opportunity to better place actions in a political and historical context. Survival has meant swift and unequivocating response. Reading about the agency's ever-compounding history of violence and brutality brings about self-reflection into my own impulses towards the revenge motif.

Katsas, kidons and the Mossad
Here in Brazil, I read this excellent book. And I must tell you that the author really wrote about this Israeli excellent secret service, called Mossad. The main Mossad's actions are all in this book. One more thing. The author also describes Mossad's failures and scandals. The author made dozens of interviews with Mossad's figures and also made interviews with many Mossad's enemies. It took about two weeks, until I read this great book.If you want to read just one book about the Mossad, this is my tip for you. What are katsas and kidons?I know, but read this book and you will know what katsas and kidons means.

It's Right in Our Face
I read this book and cross referenced it with research and other books. My take on it is it's right in our faces but we refuse to see. Israel will most likely be the only democracy left standing after our current administration is done with the US. For a long time I have felt that our current government relies too much on their electronic gadgetry and our apathetic view of the current events going on right now. As Efraim Halevy was quoted and stated in the book: "there is no point pushing against a bolted door." I believe this journalist states it as it is.

Thrilling
If you like to know the beginnings of the organisation, this is a really-not-bad book. As for the references, you don't get to get many, So you can choose for yourself which of the stories to believe or not.

Couldn't put this book down
LOVED this book. It's really an eye opener. No bias, just facts from credible sources. In contradiction to my expectation, the book isn't all heroic stories of Mossad espionage. It recounts many missteps, even some complete blunders by Mossad and the Israeli government. I was fascinated by the relationship dynamics between intelligence agencies of multiple countries, some relationships you would never expect. Two foreign intelligence agencies could have an amicable relationship, while at the same time spying on one another. This book will change the way you look at the world of foreign affairs and diplomacy.

Amazing book! It took me a year to get through because I would read a chapter, find it interesting and then have to go out and read several other books on the same topic because I was so intrigued. Would highly recommend! I even passed mine around so much that I will be needing a new copy soon.

Reads like a racy Novel, This well researched book takes you through the world of espionage and intelligence. Gordon thomas has produced a brilliant book whether your reading it for fun or want to take away some intelligence on a world that operates beyond the visible spectrum.

Best book on Mossad or any Intelligence agency
One of the amazing books that i have read. Some of the interesting info on Mossad. Lot of research has been put into this book which makes it an interesting read. Though meanders a bit. The storytelling is not chronological but nevertheless is one of the best books on Mossad
