great product
We use our chamber vacuum nearly every day. When I purchased it (Vacmaster VP112) I also purchased 1000 12x14 bags with the idea of making whatever size bag I needed from those bags. For large jobs the 12x14 bags were perfect for our particular chamber vacuum. But as time went by the process of making smaller bags became a hassle and I began studying what size bag would be the right size smaller bag. At first I thought the 6x8.5 would work, so I made a few samples from the larger bags. Uh uh...it was just the right size for a serving of salmon or cod but too small for a steak or chicken breast. So then I tried 8x10 samples and found them to be the best compromise.I ordered 500 of this size and my wife and I are pleased. We bagged salmon fillets and sliced carrots for sous vide and found the size a bit large for the salmon and just right for the carrots, a good compromise. These are high quality 3 mil bags and they sealed up perfectly on our VP112 set for a 6 second seal. We'll buy them again when we run out in a couple of years.

You get what you pay for
These bags are a little more expensive but they are really great quality. The cheaper bags don’t seal as well and are easily punctured by foods with sharp edges. That is not a worry with these bags. I highly recommend them!

Only VacMaster bags for the freezer and sous vide
I've been vacuum packing foods for 20 years, tried a lot of brands, and I'll go back to VacMaster every time. Yes, I know they probably buy them from the same place as a couple of other brands, but these have been the most consistent over time of any brand that I have tried. They are also a bit thicker that some that are out there now. This is a little embarrassing but I recently discovered that a bag of venison that I'd previously packed and pulled in and out of the freezer many times for defrosting the freezer had a date that I'd put on it in December - - - - 2014. If you're looking at this way down the road, consider the date on this review. Yep... 10 years. Honestly, no visible freezer burn, no anything other than a fresh looking piece of meat.So figuring that it would likely be tossed but more curious than hungry, it was time to thaw it out and see what I had. It turns out that by all appearances and smell that it had gone in the freezer maybe a month or two ago, not 10 years. So it went into a pot with some beef roasts for some special Italian beef recipe that I make. Perfect! So yeah, I might be able to save a penny a bag elsewhere, but since I never see freezer burn and apparently have an unlimited freezer shelf life, I see no reason to spend dollars to save pennies. Thanks VacMaster for good sealers and the bags that are used for them. There really isn't any better value for the money out there and the ease of use is something that a child could understand. I know because I've had kids doing it with me.The seals are amazing and rarely fail. When one does fail, it's almost always been because I crimped the plastic at the sealer. Besides meats, I package veggies, bones, soups, gravy, spaghetti, and more. If it can be frozen, thawed and eaten, I've used these for that. The durability simply can't be beaten. Despite having unused bags around for 5-8 years before use, I've never tossed one or questioned whether I should use it.Also for those who sous vide, I often prep my food, particularly meat, ready for the sous vide maker. If I know I'll be doing that, I'll package the meat with butter, olive oil, and spices directly in it so that all I have to do is drop it in the pot and let er rip. So far I haven't had any that have leaked. All that said, these are designed for chamber vacuum machines only. Those press and seal ones will NOT work with these bags... something about the texture of the bags being different, they don't seal properly in the press and seal ones like the FoodSaver. Sorry, you have to get the expensive ones.

Works Great in Chamber Vacuum Machine
I got my box of pouches and there are so many for the price of these vs the Foodsaver bags bought in the store. These are made for Vacuum Chamber usage and is a savings using these vs the other. They seem to do very well and sealed well on first try. I will buy more when the times comes.
