Fabulous boxset
Amazon said this had a damaged box and that's why it was so cheap. Looks brilliant to me and I've listened, read and loved it all.

Fantastic Period
I'm going to leave any track by track commentary to someone better able to do it. I'm on a first run through, and I'd need more time to even attempt it.I did want to say that having gone through once, the set is almost as good as I'd hoped. Some tracks are great and improve on classics, some don't quite measure up but are fun anyway. In fact, it's exactly what I hope for with a Bootleg Series release. On the negative side - they've left plenty of space on the CD's. None of them run anywhere close to full (80 minutes of music) and they're closer to 50 minutes each. I assume this is to ensure they're releasable on Vinyl, but for CD it's a let down. We know there is plenty additional material from these sessions, so there's no excuse really.Other than that - this is packaged in the same way as they rest. The only difference being that the main texts are in the Picture book, rather than the book that holds the CD's (which has a track by track run through).Sound quality varies depending on the source, but nothing sounds bad. In fact, this is a delight. Pricey? Yeah, a bit. But when the music is this good you quickly forget how much you paid for it.

Fandabby!!!!
I’m a Bob fan so I’m biased. I loved this. I dug out some of the original albums from around this time too. It’s great to hear them a few years after release. I enjoy hearing rehearsals and completely different takes on songs issued on albums and these all appear here. As do some songs that Bob does that I haven’t heard him do before. There is also the fact that often the best songs don’t appear on the album release at the time, but appear years later on collections such as this. Off course being a Bob fan I bought the full expanded version, although I’m not sure how well it would go down with less fanatical followers.

Great packaging
This product is packaged marvellously - 2 boxes with loads of pictures and narative. And the music is great - much better than recent re-hashes of old numbers. I haven't heard some of the songs before. Most enjoyable, even for non-Dylan fans.

Not from my favourite Dylan period,
This was a pleasant surprise...great performances, not dated by the off-their-time production of the released albums....frequently and consistently rewarding to listen to....elegantly packaged. Everything we have come to expect from this excellent series

Some Gems But For Completists
I have collected all the Bootleg series since the first issue. Without any shadow of doubt it has been a very significant series of releases. There have been some absolute gems and, for me, Volume 12 - "The Cutting Edge" was by far the best. I managed to get the 18cd edition and it is the one I return to most frequently. Volume 13 - "Trouble No More" was the one I expected to be disappointed with but it proved to be an excellent issue and caused me to revisit that period of Dylan's history with fresh ears. Against this backdrop I ordered "Springtime In New York" with some trepidation. Not my favourite Dylan period by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, I have the "Infidels" and "Empire Burlesque" albums but I never bought "Shot Of Love". It wasn't just the content which worried me about buying this set. Previous Deluxe sets were issued at £100.00 so Why £130.00 for this set? It came down to £117.00 by the release date but still expensive for a five disc set with only one disc coming in at 60 minutes of music. It could easlily have been a four disc set at a lower price. Packaging is the same format as previous releases. Sturdy slipcase. Two hardback books. One with the discs and one of photos etc. Some useful information but nothing revalatory.Having had my moan about the price what about the music? As you would expect this is very much a mixed bag. I slipped the first disc into the player and sat back. Senor is one of my favourite Dylan tracks and the version here is shorter but excellent. It didn't disappoint but it was downhill theron for the first two discs which are mainly "Shot Of Love" material. Disc three picked up somewhat with a superb take of Blind Willie McTell. The highlight of Disc 4 was Sweetheart Like You. Not markedly different from the one on "Infidels" but different enough to make it my favourite of the two. New Danville Girl is probably the stand out on Disc 5 and Dark Eyes is also great. Overall there is plenty of great material in the five discs but are they worth the money? I think not and I suspect that the set is really for compeltists only. The two disc set would probably suit most people as it has most of what I feel to be the best material on it and is significantly cheaper. Do I regret buying it? No. If I hadn't it would have nagged away at me until I did! Finally, I am a bit dismayed that there is no download as yet. For the price paid I think it is a bit off not to give the download. It is the first time in my experience that they have not done so. OK, I can rip the CDs but it's a pain.

Worth the money
Balked at buying this when first released given the price. An absolute joy. Yes, it didn’t need to be 5 cds but what the heck.If you’re hesitating - don’t hesitate!

great musicians enhance the songs on this collection.
Mark Knopfler added with some reggae beats make this more varied than a lot of other Dylan cds. Some classic alternate takes of songs coupled with worthy unreleases. One of Dylan's most interesting collections.

Altro bootleg meraviglioso
