Just finished this chilling thriller, and what stood out for me is Charlie Donlea’s writing. The prose is sharp, and so precise that with each chapter, you’re pulled deeper without even noticing. He shifts between timelines seamlessly and keeps the tension constant and tight throughout. The way Donlea words mystery and merges in the trauma is quiet yet intense, he doesn’t overwhelm the reader yet channels the emotions right. There are these emotional undercurrents throughout with precise forensic details along with small-town secrets, all this in his crisp storytelling that kept me turning pages late into the night. A smart, gripping, beautifully structured thriller that lingers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Girl Who Was Taken is a story of two girls being kidnapped at a senior high school party at the lake. In present time, one of the girls’ sisters has become a forensic pathologist. After performing an autopsy on someone from her sister’s past, she begins looking into the unsolved disappearance. The story moves back and forth between the past and the present , unraveling the events from before the kidnapping until the present day. It was a true mystery for me, an avid suspense/thriller reader. I can usually guess the ending beforehand, but with all its twist and turns it kept me guessing until the shocking end.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. The Girl Who Was Taken is intense, haunting, and full of shocking revelations. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story takes another turn. The writing is engaging, the pacing is excellent, and the suspense builds beautifully. It’s one of those books you end up finishing in one or two sittings because you need to know what happens next. Highly recommended for thriller lovers.

The first book I have read by this author. It was gripping, hard to put down. Absolutely excellent read!!!! I will be purchasing another one quickly!
