These were requested by my 7 year old granddaughter. They are very cute, but a post snapped within a few days. To be fair, she’s young and new at putting in her own earrings, so it may have user error…but be aware that the posts are very fragile.

I was floored this evening. My daughter woods 8 took out her earrings three days ago at school because she said one was bothering her. She told me she thought it was just too tight. I didn’t think anything of it. Just tonight after her bath I told her we needed to put earrings in her ears because I didn’t want her holes to close up so we went to put her first earring in and she told me she couldn’t get it through the hole so I showed her by using my ear as a demonstration how to massage the earlobe. She said it wasn’t working and I told her to move her hand and let me try. Once I put my fingers on her ear, I knew something was immediately wrong. I felt a huge knot behind her ear and immediately moved her hair out of the way and flipped her earlobe over and she had this giant clear looking mass protruding from the back of where her hole should be for her earring. I brought her into my room for better lighting, and I was completely baffled. I just thought maybe it was a giant fluid filled cyst of some sort and got a needle and started picking at it surprisingly, she said nothing of it hurting which also baffled me so I started picking around the edge of what I believed was a cyst. Behold, a shiny glimmer of something catches the light in my bathroom, and as I move her ear around more trying to rupture what I believed was a cyst. I see more pink gold. I am immediately stumped and I’m like oh my God is your earring in your earlobe. It turns out that the secondary backing that was sent. The safety backing was inside of her earlobe something about the middle on the backing, had to have irritated the back of her earlobe which caused it to get inflamed, and then begin to engulf the entire back of the earring to where the back of her earring was physically inside her earlobe, and I had to push it out. I wish I had taken a picture of the beforehand, but I did take a picture of what it looked like after I got it out of the back of her ear. This is the backing I’m talking about that’s pictured as well as what her ear looks like now. The last picture shows the portion I could actually see sticking out of her ear and you could not see any of the gold trim that’s in the middle of the back and all that was physically inside her ear. It’s disturbing just to think about it.The earrings are gorgeous, but I don’t know how on the earth something like this happens. I’ve never seen anything like this before in my life. Needless to say, I’ll be damned if I will let her wear these earrings ever again.
