A good read
Tim Weaver is one of my favourite authors, it is nice to read books that are not full of bad language - which add nothing to the story. I have read all the David Raker series which are brilliant and I am really looking forward to the next one. I enjoyed this stand alone book, especially 3/4 of it, but towards the end I found it a bit far fetched and long winded which is why I have only given it 4 stars. It is still worth reading and is quite exciting in parts. I liked Travis the detective but thought he was a bit slow in making any headway into Rebekah and her brothers disappearance. I also liked Rebekah who is the main character in the book. There was a lot of going backwards and forwards as there seems to be in most books today, but the print in the Travis sections I found a bit small.

Refreshing Stand Alone - Loved It
NO SPOILERS - SAFE REVIEWMissing Pieces is the first stand alone book from Tim Weaver, a new character Rebekah, a claustrophobic location and lots of tangled back story.Survival stories really capture my imagination, maybe its because I am in awe of how people can be so robust in extreme circumstances, and in Missing Pieces my imagination was sparking all over the shop. The story is easy to get into and be totally absorbed by. The plot feels like a movies in places and I imagined Jennifer Lawrence playing Rebekah. There is plenty of backstory to fill in the gaps and of course the obligatory red herrings and plot twists. The final 150 pages need to be read in one sitting as the pace goes into warp speed and some terrific surprises. If you like the Tim Weaver's writing and novels you will love this, if you are expecting this to be like a David Raker novel then you will be disappointed. Don't pick this up comparing it to any previous book by Tim Weaver, it's not going to be the same, and that is what makes is so good. Lots of reviews here have tried to compare and that is mistake. Give yourself to something new, something intriguing and just go with it.I loved this book and I look forward to reading other stand alone books in the future.

Very disappointing from a writer I had got to love.
We all waited ages for the next n the Raker series only to be severely disappointed.. I rarely give up on a book but gave up this one after completing about a quarter.Constant reflection to times past completely disturbed the flow of the book and frankly it was difficult to keep up with the characters and it destroyed the suspense you have come to expect from this author. In addition one of the charms of the Raker series was that it was based in the UK, in familiar geography.I will think very carefully now about following this author in future.

Not his best.
A lot of flaws in this book really spoilt the storyline. Main character marooned on Island in winter months with very little food and no communication. We are lead to believe there is very little food no heat no electricity but she can fill her car up with petrol!!!!! January and February the weather is so bad she can't go out but by mid March she is running 23 miles in 3 hours on frozen ground. By 1st of April the grass has grown so tall she can hide in it!!!! She has the ability to see a helicopter 30 miles away in a storm!!!! Petrol runs out but when Island reopens first car off ferry manages to fill up!!! Such glaring mistakes and repetitive detail made this a times very tedious read. Three stars for the storyline which was good. Just hope the next David Raker is back on form.

Excellent as ever!!
I love the David Raker books and I was over the moon when I spotted this new book by Tim Weaver. The fact that it was set in America gave me pause initially. However I was soon hooked into Rebekah's story, I really felt like I was the on the Island with her and became invested in how she might escape. As with all the other Tim Weaver books the twists and turns of the story kept me involved until the very end. I find that I am unable to put them down so that I can find out what happens, then I feel bereft that it is over. I have even begun reading the David Raker series for a second time and I am eagerly awaiting the new book.

ANOTHER MASTERPIECE
Couldn't put down Tim Weaver's David Raker series and the same applied to this stand alone novel. Another masterpiece from Tim. Rebekah and her brother Johnny travel to a remote island to see a man who was going to help her brother with the book he wanted to write. What happened to both of them? Why did Rebekah end up alone on this island - where did everybody go to? Five months on the island and nobody was coming to rescue her. What was the connection between the island and the missing girl that Frank Travis wanted to find before his pending retirement - can he trust his superiors. How did Roxie get Rebekah through her time on the island. A fantastic twist at the end - who was the man that Rebekah spoke to in the cafe? Can't wait for Tim's next David Raker in 2022.

Stand alone novel
Not as good as the Raker series. It is very disjointed (hence the title), and I was over half the way through it before it began to make any sense. I am sure the next one will be better.

Suspense holder
Initially I found it confusing as I had many questions regarding why Rebekah Murphy a hospital doctor is stranded on an island closed for the winter, and why there is a killer pursuing her. I kept on thinking I had missed a page. However as the 'Before' chapters emerge slowly, the leading events things are revealed. This is a gripping suspense which I couldn't put down. Trying to put the pieces together given the twists in the plot and red herrings set by Tim Weaver provided a great read. I will read more of this author.
