Q: Can you hear ok with the hoody on? I like to hunt with my ears.

Better than most hoods but I often pulled the hood behind me ears to hear better. I also got to only putting it up if I got a bull to respond or was sitting still.

Q: Is this a good mid layer

yes but its very thin and lightweight, good early season mid layer. Later season cooler temps look at core Mid Weight or Heavy Weight. Hope this helps
