Word Origin 2017 Day-to-Day Calendar Calendar – Day to Day Calendar, July 26, 2016

The usual. (I've been getting this word-a-day for at least 10 years now.) A collection of fairly common words and interesting stories about their origins and development into modern English. I much prefer this calendar to other "wordy" calendars with obscure entries. The origin of everyday words is much more entertaining to me.

This is a great calendar to expand your vocabulary.

I was expecting more learning. My 16 year old know 90% of the words and facts already. But the blend terms, expressions and vocabulary in more interesting than the word of the day.

I bought this for my 10 yo. I found the words to be oddly chosen - "Reston" as in Reston, Va and its origin (named after a land developer). I also would prefer a more formal etymology.

I buy this for my husbnad every year. He is a word enthusist and learns new words every day.

Interesting but not that special ....

I enjoy every day's pieces.

I'm a word enthusiast and for 2017 I chose this calendar as an alternative to the Merriem-Webster one. Bad call. Some of the words are products or company names, quite interesting but not exactly an enlargement of your vocabulary. The origins are sketchy and the meanings don't include examples of usage. The weekend has just one entry, not two. The choice of words is strongly American-centric. The reverse of the pages contains puzzles of one sort or another. Worst of all, some of the words and origins are lamentably inaccurate. Example: 7 Feb on corticosteroids. ...hormones that are used medically in the cortex – that is, the nerve centers of the brain and spine. Good God. How much research does it take to find out that corticosteroids are steroids synthesized in the adrenal cortex! How much of the rest of the year can I trust?

A bit too "americanised" for me

Tweak your brain a little each day you lazy farts! All of these calanders are excellent for learning trivial knowledge you will probably never use. Love it and recommend highly ,if not this one but others like it as well👍
