Works just fine
I'm going to give this 5 stars because the unit works exactly as described. However, this unit (as well as almost all the others I considered) does not come with software to actually watch movies on a Windows laptop. This continues to baffle me especially for companies the size of Pioneer and Microsoft. The description of this item on Amazon, as well as the box itself, clearly stated that Windows software was not included. So it wasn't a surprise. But still...The unit was immediately recognized my my Windows 10 laptop. The player chugs and clunks along on some DVD previews, but once the movie starts, the unit is very smooth running and much more quiet than I expected. To improve things (other than including software), I wish the USB cord was a bit longer. I like that the DVD can be ejected using Windows or the eject button on the unit.Amazon's partner, Plethora 7, offered this unit with same day Prime delivery. Sure enough, it arrived a few hours after I placed the order. The included Microfiber cloth was a nice addition. All in all, I am very happy with my decision

Good & Slim
Pioneer -- they've been around for a while now and keep making good products. I'm a Mac guy and this comes with software for Mac, although it is windows compatible. The unit itself works good as a burner, but the only software that comes with it is an LT version of Toast. In order to actually watch blu-ray disks, you have to get separate software, but that's easy and it works!

100% RECOMMENDED FOR RIPPING BLU-RAYS ON BOTH PC AND MAC!
I have both a Mac Mini (mid-2010) running Mac OSX Sierra and a HP Laptop running Windows 10. This Blu-ray reader/burner works amazingly on both devices. ZERO SOFTWARE TO INSTALL. Literally plug and play. I use the software program "MakeMKV" to rip all my Blu-Rays and I have done over 100 so far with ZERO errors! In my lifetime of hardcore use of products, this is almost unheard of. It is fast too. I'm very happy with this product. It sits on top of my Mac Mini and matches it nicely, with it's aluminum looking finish. Highly recommended. NOTE: I have yet to use this to actually write a blu-ray, or watch blu-ray movies directly from it on my computers. But that is not what I bought it for. I watch blu-rays on my TV streamed from my Mac Mini via an AppleTV.

Pioneer Blu-Ray Burner ain't worth a dime.
Right from the get go this device wasn't working correctly from first hook up. The PC had a terrible time reading it.I have only used this device 3 or 4 times since I bought it the beginning of the year, so it has been 8 or 9 months. Customer service took a long time on hold to answer my phone call. They have opened a case to check into replacing the item. It appears that this model has a terrible USA connector in the back. You need to like hold and press the connected cable upward for the PC to properly register or read the connection and pick up that the drive is even connected. As soon as you let the pressure on the connector go again, it fails to read it. I would recommend you go with a better quality product than this. It looks like Pioneer opted to save money on the wrong part of its product design. This really is a piece of trash product. Don't waste your money on it.

I would not recommend buying this drive
This drive bills itself for mac or windows and says it can play dvd and blu-ray movies. They don't tell you that the software included is for Mac only. So I can't say anything about it, I have a windows machine. There is also a note on the back of the box that says "Blu-ray playback will not work with most netbook computers". Certainly something they should include in their product description. That was not an issue for me since I have a laptop not netbook but I thought I should bring it to the readers attention. It was recognized quickly and correctly by the computer but without playback and burning software is of minimal use. It did not read my 4k movie disk at all - just spit it back out.I would not recommend buying this drive. I am sorry that I did and will be getting a replacement for it.

Simple USB plugin and it just works, and includes Toast Lite
Considering I stuck it on a USB 2.0 hub, it's fast and getting the power it needs from the hub. That's good, because no power converter is included (unlikely to need with a proper hub). I haven't burned a disc with it, but I used it to download CDs into iTunes - my internal drive had a tendency to be incredibly slow and RIP skips into the music. This drive sucked them down in 3 minutes easy. My only complaint? The USB cable with the special funky end for burner is incredibly short, so this had to be stacked vertically next to the hub. But my optical drive future is assured, so...

Really Nice Product
Spent a lot time looking at all the choices decided to go Pioneer alway make great products.Nice unit, well build, works perfect for ripping my CD's. I would have given it 5 stars but their custome USB cord to the unit is so short, maybe a foot long.It is quiet, and fast, and looks good with the iMac.Have not tried the Blu-ray feature, not sure I ever will.
