Breville Curve 4-Slice Toaster with High Lift and Wide Slots | Grey & Chrome [VTR013]

What a let down - bought to match kettle. Lovely physical design, but very poor in the way the 4 slots are totally interdependent on each other. No problem if you are toasting more than 2 items at the same time, as both sets of slots will be in use but amazed to find in operation that unless the first 2 slot module (No 1 on the machine itself) is in use, the second 2 slot module (No 2 on the machine) will not operate, they are dependent on No 1 module already being in use. So if you wanted to toast 1 or 2 items, you can only put them in No 1 module as it is no use putting them straight into module 2 - it won't work 'cos you are not using No1 !!!!!! Never seen the like before in all the 4 slice toaster we have owned in 60 years of marriage. All 4 slice products will normally have independent controls for each 2 slot module - but not this one! All controls are also linked direct to all 4 slots, so it is the same temperature in all 4 slots no matter what you are toasting, the eject button will eject all 4 slots at the same, as will any other control. So disappointed especially with the Breville brand with whom I credited more sense. I spoke at length with Breville customer support, who clearly worked from an 'energy saving' script as when I asked how this was saving energy they could not give me a qualifying 'scientific' answer and simply pursued the line of 'it IS energy saving' and gave no understanding to the frustrations of having even different bread products in the different 2 slot modules, all which had to bake at the same temperature (bread and say, bagels - I think not, as each requires to be toasted at different rates), they all had to be ejected at the same time etc etc - something required by a user that the designers have clearly overlooked. They simply did not acknowledge the deficiency in engineering design and still, after a lengthy time on the phone, refused to vere from the script that it is energy saving. I also asked why this 'strange' feature was not listed for the customer on the packaging so they were aware of it at time of purchase - they didn't know!! They simply went back to script to the tired phrase of 'it is an energy saving feature' . I gave up !!!!!!!I will be replacing this 'energy saving' product for one that helps the user, not hinders them. Until then, my personal advice is don't bother with the toaster, as nice as it looks, (and it does) and buy a different brand that has independent controls for both 2-slice modules, it will ease the frustration and make your life so much more pleasant in the early mornings.

Honestly why design it so that you have to constantly use the right hand pair of slots, before the left hand pair of slots are able to be used...?What bellend thought this was a good idea...? That means the right hand side will be over used while the left hand side will be under used... so when one gives up the other is perfectly fine but you can't use it because the right hand side is screwed...!Yeah, it looks pretty but let's be honest it's a pile of junk.As soon as this shows signs of being faulty in any way the whole lot kettle and toaster is going back to Amazon.

I am deeply disappointed. This was bought as a present and worked well. Then one day it just stopped working. We checked the fuse but that was fine. The returns policy for Amazon is shocking! We missed the 'window' by a couple of weeks! I have been in contact with Breville who were at first helpful but then said the warranty lies with the retailer and it lasts 1 year! The Amazon website does not help with this matter. I will not be ordering again from Amazon. I felt it was my only option during lockdown.

Looks great but doesn’t toast. Prepare to cut your bread in half first as the slots aren’t deep enough. Oh and get an extra knife to scrape off the burnt bread as it burns one side. Depressingly sad piece of equipment.

This product has a defect whereas the right side if toaster works but the lever doesn't stay down on the left side...arrived in an undamaged box so the toaster has a fault. Looking back I should have known as two people are selling them on ebay saying the left side doesn't work....trying to return it has been a nightmare- they just aren't interested- I did a live chat to try to sort this but she just purposely confused me and was generally quite rude and very unhelpful.....I shall be taking this further as I dont like being ripped OFFUPDATE......I persevered with this complaint after speaking with an advisor that was much more helpful...I was told I could keep the damaged toaster and they sent me a new one the next daySo my advice is if you've received a toaster with this defect....don't give Up!!!!
