Decent book, but has too much information without enough story. It is like reading a 400 page flashcard. Dreyer clearly knows his stuff but doesn't present it in a digestible fashion. If you are getting it for school definitely get the ebook so you can search for specific details; otherwise, you are screwed. Also, why is the ebook the same price as the physical copy? C'mon Dreyer!!!!

This books does a great job of explaining how the Chinese government we see today is a product of the imperial dynasties and a turbulent 20th century. Whether you are a China expert or you know nothing about China, this book is a great, informative read.
