Q: Is this a darker bronze in color or more of a copper as it appears in the photos?

Copper! It's beautiful; a little burnished looking.

Q: Does it come in a sturdy box? If so, what is the length and weight of the box? I might want to travel with it.

To be honest, I don't remember the box it came in, but as for traveling with it I would not recommend it. I just moved and my ijewelry did not stay on the tree and any necklaces and earrings will get tangled up together. The tree itself is sturdy enough for your dresser and it good in size. I really like mine, but I would never travel with it. I hope this was some help to you.

Perhaps, depends on clamp strength. The leaves are thin enough to hold them as well.
