Digitally remastered two CD anthology containing the best of the Danish band drawn from the recordings made for Sonet Records between 1969 and 1974. Burnin Red Ivanhoe are legends of the Danish Progressive Rock scene. Formed in Copenhagen in 1967, the band initially featured the talents of Karsten Vogel (saxophones), Steen Claesson (guitar, vocals), Steen Lange (bass) and Bo Thrige Andersen (drums). Signing to Sonet Records in Denmark in December 1969, the band issued their first album M 144 in 1969. Over the next few years the band's line-up varied, but the string of albums such as Burnin Red Ivanhoe, WWW, Miley Smile/Stage Recall and Right on released between 1969 and 1974 gained many admirers throughout the world, including John Peel (who signed the band to his Dandelion label). Burnin Red Ivanhoe's unique fusion of Jazz, Rock and the Avant Garde was as imaginative as anything emerging from the embryonic German Rock scene of the time and remains impressive 40 years later. Esoteric.

great danish prog/psych
this is a great compilation on 2 cds of some great music recorded in the early 70s by this great danish outfit, the remastering on both cds is awesome and this comes with a killer informative booklet to educate you on this great band, this band (especially on disc one) sounds a lot like the uk bands out of the canterbury scene in the uk in the late 60s and early 70s bands like egg for example, you get a lot of wild organ, guitar and flute mixed all in one great sound, its very noisy at times but REALLY REALLY GOOD if you liked that whole matching mole scene, the second disc features more of a moody prog sound then a canterbury sound and still is very very good, i really enjoyed both of these cds and lets face it if you where to look for the original viynl of any of this stuff it may cost an arm and a leg as we say, this 2 cd set is for old time rockers like me.....

The answer is in the stars.
First let me start by saying that I have absolutely no idea who this band was. I made the purchase strictly on the basis of how many stars people were giving it plus I kinda liked the cover. Well upon hearing the c.d. I can tell you that reviews or stars do work. I listened to the disc and have a hard time understanding why they never really hit big . The music has a very strong influence from the early 70's which for me is a very good thing . I only wish I had found this c.d. years ago.

The Great Danes of Psych-Prog
These five Danes serve up a great helping of prog in various styles over their 4 albums compiled here (Amazon says it's a 'best of', but I believe the albums are complete). The first album still has that exciting heady feeling of the psychedelic era, with great organ and guitar, and the flute occasionally hinting at Jethro Tull. Over their next 3 albums they mature into more seventies style prog, heading deeper into jazz territory on the last albums. Together the 2 CDs guarantee a couple hours of really absorbing prog for those who like the genre.

Like the Curates Egg
What is an anthology. Probably the best group from mainland Europe deserve better than this. It only includes tracks from four of their seven albums so it is hardly all encompassing. Personally I am surprised that Second Floor Croydon, Kim Mentzer’s flute solo is awesome, or Oblong Seranade, Ole Fick has never been better, are not included. As a further moan why intersperse Avez Vous Kaskelainen and Kaske Vous Kaskelainen with All About All. That is just plain lazy. If you are a BRI fan you will know about Saxophone solos there are a few too many on this compilation. As an aside the credits fail to mention that Ole Fick plays glasses, yes glasses, on WWW.
