I am a very beginning potter (6 months, in fact) and as a beginner, I often get tense and anxious when I try to throw a pot, but this book has become a remarkable source of calm for me as well as a vital source of information that has helped me to become more successful in my pottery.The photos are soothing and downright beautiful just to look at, her explanations are very clear and incredibly helpful as well as understandable and her suggested projects are so approachable – just the way she explains things makes even the projects for “Advanced Beginner Level” (which I definitely am not) exciting to try with confidence. Did I mention how soothing it is just to look at the pictures?I have begun collecting a few beginner pottery books, and this one is my most favorite. Having her book as well as following her online tutorials and being a member of her online Pottery Club has helped my skills so much, plus the best part is following her lessons whether online, or in this marvelous book, is like having a soothing friend teach you the amazing secrets found in pottery. Such a joy!

I ordered this book as soon as I started getting interested in pottery, and it is such a wonderful resource. Kara covers everything you could possibly need to get started in a very straight forward way. Lots of great information, but not to the point that it's overwhelming. Lots of great projects (both hand building and throwing) to help get you started and inspire you!! Just beautifully written. Even as I feel more comfortable with pottery, I still reference this book frequently!

Kara has written an amazing book! I'm a potter with 6 years experience and found this book packed with essential basics as well as more advanced information. Her writing style is clear, and her photos are gorgeous (as is her pottery). If you are looking for a perfect book for pottery beginners, this is the one!

I originally rented this from my local library but decided I needed to have a copy of my own to reference. Many, many useful tips and easy projects to stretch your skills and set up a home pottery studio. Also, the way she writes about clay and ergonomics (use your skeleton!) made perfect sense to me.

I am a beginner - and Kara (the author) explains details that are what helped me to do something as simple as prepare the clay (not so easy) to start any project !!! The book is done with beautiful pictures and step by step instruction. She also has great videos on You Tube...

Great ideas that I incorporated into my pottery classes. Basic knowledge of clays, firing, hand building and wheel throwing. I open the book quite often and have read cover to cover.

This book is perfect for me! I’ve been out of pottery for almost a year now, I wasn’t that great to begin with, but I know this is going to be perfect for me for when I can get back in to it. There are a few shapes I need help with, and I know this book will help me with them. Kara is an absolute sweet heart with a beautiful soul, and she shares every little detail you need to know! If you’ve never sat at the wheel before, you will know what to do with this book. She is so detailed and all the pictures will help! Great buy! And the book itself is beautiful!

I have had this book for several months now and refer to it often. The descriptions and photos of each step have been so helpful as I learn! Before going to my beginning class (which is more of an open studio self -teaching environment) I review a section and practice that step. It has made a big difference in my progress. The author's instruction on instagram is also very helpful. My most useful resource by far!
