sharper is little on the small side (length) and needs a block underneath to protect surrounding surfaces but, a great tool that did the job well

Makes anything razor sharp. Very simple and large enough to be easy. No risk of sliding and getting cut with this large hand sized sharpening plate. Bottom "sort of" sticks to tables which can be helpful. This is practical and a few knife snobs may criticise the grade, but this will make a blunt thing very sharp and I question what further practical benefit you would get from any other grade of sharpening stone/plate. This is plenty fine enough and a super super sharp thing would be as sharp as this thing can do, after a couple of cuts.From my experience it has far more to do with technique and angle and bevel than the grade of the plate. This will give you a decent consistent mirror look on steel if you use it right and maintain a consistent angle.

I mean it works but it is very cheapI wish it had a rubber baseI wish the base was thicker since you have to use it on the edge of the table

Keeps blades razor sharp

i use these to sharpen chisel, knives etc. quite thin, so I made a simple wooden base to hold them securely. only a few strokes needed on reasonably sharp item, but with a bit of elbow grease they can revive even the dullest edge. I could shave with my chisels and my planes now slide through oak with no effort, and the most satisfying noise ever.

I have used to sharpen 3/4 knives and a few chisel's and it leave a very fine edge with a little strop it is popping hairs my arm. The feel of the plates makes me think it is a true 400 & 1000 grit. Works very well.
