Depending on the metal it probably would. You can cut copper wire that is a pretty heave gauage. I assume gold would be a similar density. You will need to cut near the tip of the shears as the blade widens quickly so it will not slide under a ring if it is still on someone's finger. When I was an EMT we had trauma shears that could cut a penny in half. These would also be a good alternative.
