"Simple" instructions are TOO simple
To clarify one point: This is my first mushroom-growing experience, and perhaps I should have started with something more commonplace, but I really like Lion's Mane mushrooms, so that's what I went with.The kit arrived with a thick layer of mycelium—which I figured out on my own, because the included instructions are a bit too simple and don't mention it at all—directly under a thick fold of plastic enclosing the inoculated sawdust block. I carefully unfolded the plastic, and re-wrapped the fold over to the side so that I could make X cuts directly over the mycelium. With that done, the block spritzed with water (spray bottle included) and the humidity tent (also included) in place, I waited.After a few days, with regular spritzing, I had cauliflower-like growth, but still UNDER the block's wrapper. I contacted the company directly via email to ask for clarification regarding the instructions and my expectations, but never heard back.After another day or two the growth finally expanded outside of the wrapper, and I figured I was on the right track. However, it's now been 29 days, growth has stopped, no spines ever came out of the clumps, and all I have is two smallish lumps of something that looks exactly like dried out cauliflower where I should have a delicious, delicate, furry, bearded delight.I have since started doing my own research into beginner-level Lion's Mane growing, and will try again with some new tricks up my sleeve.
