I Would, Read This, Again......Yeah....Darling, even if you don't want me to...
Before reading any further simply go on Youtube and type in "Toure Questlove Alan Leeds Prince" and at the top you should find a video about the above mentioned talking about Prince during the recorded book launch conference. It lasts about 1hr 26mins and it's a very interesting and entertaining watch. Far better at highlighting what this book is about than me or anyone else.If you are still reading and aren't watching the video (then, why..?) I want to say that I haven't read many biographies about Prince to compare this to (I am a huge P fan, honest) but this was a great read.I think I've read one by Per Nilsen (the Godfather of Prince biographies) but it was so long ago I can't recall which one (probably DanceMusicSexRomance), Slave To The Rhythm by Liz Jones, which was pretty good but again can't recall much about it and another, probably one produced by the Uptown team...When I have read others I will perhaps return and re-view this book in accordance with comparisons. For now I'll say this book is great as it only gives the Prince facts where needed to help Toure analyse why Prince got to where he did. Toure utilises his academic background in music journalism to look at Prince life with the different lenses of childhood development; psychology (Freudian); musical movements; afro-american cultural dynamics; sexuality; religion and others...With lots of input from experts and past Prince associates like Alan and Eric Leeds; Questlove; Susan Rogers (former Prince recording engineer from mid-80s); Dez Dickerson and others...this book is actually a rare account that die-hard fans can actually learn from and get a different viewpoint as to why all the constellating factors and variables formed (as unlikely as they appeared) to make Prince as important and culturally significant as he has become.

Gen X
I’m am a big Prince fan and quite clearly Gen X. I really enjoyed the book, made a lot of sense to me personally. Would have been interesting to hear about the years that followed up to him sadly passing and the opinion there. So missed

Gut gemacht. Gut lesbar.

Great book to understand what's inside Prince's mind
Not a bio in the strict sense, but an incredible survey to understand how this man functions. At the end, you really get the feeling you know him deeply.Very very interesting for the hardcore fans!
