Overshot is Hot!: The Best of Weaver's (Best of Weaver's series) Paperback – August 1, 2008

I’ve loved Overshot ever since I first discovered it and the “Best of Weavers” book is not a disappointment. There will be projects for every purpose for many years to come.

As others have said, this book is a disappointment. It is more like a teaching class series. There are various techniques to learn, such as turned overshot. Much of the patterns require you to be able to adapt them before using, ie., adding borders, figuring out the treadling, etc. The drafts often require a magnifying glass. But mostly, if you have only 4 shafts, the book is virtually useless.

i LOVE overshot. i bought this book hoping to be inspired by a modern interpretation of this weave structure. it was only published in 2008, but even hot off the presses it would have been outdated in style. I have other books that i greatly value by madi-v. she has been so inspiring to weavers everywhere. unfortunately this book misses the mark. this is why: one of the thrilling things about overshot for a weaver is that it only takes 4 shafts. this book is mostly 8 shaft weaves. I completely understand that this weave structure is "old fashioned" but i have seen it used to great success in fresh and modern ways. this book feels like it came out of the 80s (i was there i know)i really wanted to love this book but i cant. It has nice concise instructions that are typical of the great madi-v but i would never make any of the projects.

The collection of patterns bring a challenge and interest for all weaving skill levels. I'm intrigued by the Snips and Snails pattern for bookmarks. Have fun with book!

If you enjoy weaving, get this book! I have used it as a "cook-book" for book marks, and people just love them. I did have to correct an error in the drawdown but that was very easy if you followed the pattern. Somehow they just skipped a couple of pics. Put them in and the pattern is marvelous. Get the book, READ the book, it will inspire you to warp your loom and try some fancy weave structures. I LOVE it and I'm only a beginner (weaving for about 3 years only).

Madelyn's done it again! I love overshot any how,it's just plain fun, and this book is jammed with drafts that inspire!! As with any "weaver's" collection, though, all the patterns are just a rehash of patterns used in their magazines, but unless you've been collecting them all since the 80's it's probably new to you. Any book from the "weaver's" collection is a must have!!

Of all the weaving experts out there Madelyn van der Hoogt is one of my favorites. She has a way of explaining weaving drafts that finally makes sense. I also recommend her book 'Complete Book of Drafting' and her DVD 'Handwoven Fabric: Structure and Pattern'. I taught myself to weave using her references. Madelyn, your my hero!

Very informative. This book many Weaver's projects and a great description of how to design and execute an overshot weaving project.

このシリーズはこれでもう５冊目です。　いずれもステキな作品ぞろいですが、これもまた…すばらしいです。　これでもかとばかりに、オーバーショットの技法を駆使した作品が紹介されています。ランチョンマットから、ベッドカバー、チュニック、カーディガン、マフラー、などなど…。　オーバーショットというと、とても手が込んでいるので、タペストリーとかテーブルクロスのイメージがあったのですが、こんな作品にも生きるのか！と、驚かされました。　柄あわせとか、色合い、デザインとか、本当にみんなステキです。勉強になります。　ただし、実際に織るのは、どれも大変そうです…。綜絖通しとか、踏み順とか、考えただけで、気が遠くなってしまいます。でも、挑戦したくなる感じなんです。
