Civil PE Practice Exam: Breadth Exam Version B

Fair simulation exam -- better than competition
I'm not the best test taker nor the best engineer. It took me 4 tries to pass the PE.Having solved, under timed and simulated conditions, this exam, I feel that it is fair and well-balanced.PE Prepared seems to be the best vendor out of the small stack of competitors. Several competitors' simulation exams have a mixture of issues -- errors, omittions, poor solution write-ups, etc. Not PE Prepared.See my screenshot and let the results speak for themselves.

Good practice for Breadth
I recently passed the Civil Construction PE as a CBT. I used this as one of my study resources and it helped me feel prepared going into exam day. Do as many problems as you can, but also understand them, and you will do well. I recommend this practice exam. Problems and solutions were written in a way that were easy for me to understand.

Good questions but with a few mistakes
Overall I thought the questions were very good and were similar to the questions I had the first time I took the PE. There are a few mistakes and required clarifications though. Q.115: If the two far left members are zero, then the middle bottom member must be zero to satisfy the sum of the forces in the horizontal direction at that nearby joint. So the answer should be (D) 3. Q.117: The answer could easily be argued for (D) since half the load combinations in ASCE 7 have the Dead Load factor greater than the Live Load factors. Q.123: The answer assumed the circular channel is half full when in fact the questions shows 1 foot depth with a 3 foot diameter. The hydraulic radius that I came up with for the circular channel is 0.54 ft which means the answer is (C) instead of (B). Q.133 This question does not give any information for the area of the permeameter. I assumed it to be square based on the 90 degree angles but the answer assumes it to be circular. Q.137 The wording in this question needs to be more specific. Is the excavation to be filled 150 cubic yards? Is the fill material currently compacted? Q.140 requires the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices which is not included on the list of reference materials for the morning session of the exam.

Great practice problems
Very well written book with good practice problems that were similar to the actual test. The solutions are explained well. I used this and the other PE Prepared books to practice and passed on the 1st try. Highly recommend!

To easy
I bought this book, did the questions and scored 80%. However, I did not pass the exam. The problems in this book were way easier than actual test questions and gave me false confidence. It never hurts to do all the problems you can, but know that the actual exam in Colorado was way more difficult.

Very Realistic Test
Disclaimer: I have used this material in my preparation for a past PE exam. I did pass. This was an excellent practice exam. It was very comparable to the real PE exam. In fact, it was so good that I almost got a word for word question on the real PE test. Great job PE Prepared! It is easier than some of the other material out there.. but so is the PE. I highly recommend all of the PE Prepared Morning / Discipline exams!

Very representative of the breadth portion
I took the PE (civil / water resources) in October 2021. This book was very representative of what was on the actual breadth portion of the exam. I referenced it frequently during the exam (many of the problems were very similar).I would highly recommend this book as well as the official NCEES practice exam.

Good Book to Begin The Pain
Thought it was a good book. Problems are similar in difficulty as far as calculations go. However, be aware the breadth exam is more conceptually tricky. It’s worth doing more difficult problems then this book in order to learn all the steps in a process. On the exam they could have you start on step 6 and have you end on step 10. I would recommend studying out of a variety of books from different authors to see different problems and set ups. What did you think you were going to buy one book and pass?-Passed first try, transpo PE exam, April 2019
