HUGE disappointment...updated to 5 STARS after receiving a different device!!!
I was anxiously awaiting the delivery of my Echo Show 8. I got this for a good price on an Amazon deal, so I placed a rather large (expensive) order to start the transition of fully integrated "smart" home. This order included 12 smart recessed lights, 18 smart light bulbs and this device that I was hoping would pull everything together and allow me to be "hands free" and enjoy all the wonderful things I've heard the echos have to offer. We had issues with it right out of the box, sadly. I will list the pros and cons:Pros:Great price( amazon deal), fast delivery, well packagedSet up manual minimal, easy to readSize of unit was great, display is clearInitial set up was easy.Synced my other smart devices easily.Cons:•Voice recognition has not worked at all, ever so I am unable to "talk" to Alexa. Which really bummed me out. I pictured cleaning my kitchen, requesting some wholesome music for the entire family, "Alexa, play WAP" 🤣 ok, maybe a different choice then "Alexa, play Jason Mraz." ... nothing. Of course I also signed up for unlimited Amazon music so that I could hear the actual song I wanted and be the Dj of my house when the mood struck.I attempted to set up our profiles, first starting with the voice recognition. I must've turned that 🎤 off and on 50x trying to figure out this thing. I started to feel like maybe it was "user error" and I was missing something. So, I "googled" ( which is obviously a verb this day in age) troubleshooting options and I tried EVERYTHING it suggested to no avail. I noticed my bar light was orange which suggests connectivity issues, so I went down that troubleshooting path...nothing. I restarted my router, I made sure i was on 2.4gHz not the 5gHz (though it had issues even staying on that frequency) despite my internet connection reading "excellent".I strategically went through every possible avenue I could to attempt to correct the issues and ended up spending HOURS ( literally 10 hours) attempting to troubleshoot. I factory reset it probably 8-10 times. Literally nothing worked.• Screen calibration is slightly off and slow to respond. It didn't matter if I touched it lightly, with gentle pressure, a quick tap or a long firm press...it wouldn't register and was delayed 99% of the time.• Has a mind of its own. I would select a screen, for instance, a receipe ...it would initially open then within seconds close out and go to a different screen. Maybe it was catching up with the previous 10 request I had tapped on the screen, but weird that it did that only after my last selection and I had not selected what it was closing out and opening up.• Speakers aren't great. Kind of muted sounding. I only know this because the only way I was ever able to use it was through Alexa app on my phone. I did also contact chat support through Amazon and when it suggested all of the same things I had been trying repeatedly I just decided I was not going to continue in this maddening process. So, I finally gave in after less than 24 hours with this thing and requested a return. I was only able to return it for a refund, not return for a replacement. Which, is fine with me..I am researching older models. So, today I have it all packaged up and am anxiously awaiting my UPS pickup so I can receive my Amazon credit. I may go with a previous version of the Echo. I'm not totally against it...I may have just had a 🍋 because there are those in every bunch. However, if the 2nd one doesn't work out, I will just be keeping my home smart devices controlled on my phone and purchase smart speakers to install throughout my house so I can jam out and just print my recipes the old fashioned way 🤣 or use my awesome JBL flip that has NEVER let me down. For my lights, I may have to go with an oldie, but a Goldie "The Clapper".At THIS point in time I 100% would NOT recommend this item. However, once I order a different one I may have a change of 💙Update: 11/2/22I reorderd the same echo show and recieved it. I know, I know what was I thinking!! The first one I had received was obviously a 🍋after receiving the 2nd device I ordered. It literally took 2 minutes or less to set up and it has been working beautifully since we got it. NONE of the issues that the initial one had. I'm glad I went with the same model and trusted my gut that the previous one was just a faulty device. It picks up ALL of my smart devices throughout my home and the sound quality is pretty great! Not quite JBL or Bose Bluetooth speaker quality, but WAY better than I had anticipated. I am super happy with my purchase and my kids are fighting over who gets to choose the next song. I told them cleaning the house/ their room is ALWAYS better with loud music. So far....its working to get them to clean their rooms without complaining about it! 🤣

Nice addition to your home
Smaller than the Echo Show 10 (screen size being the most significant difference) but it produces a quality screen for viewing YouTube, for instance. Responds well to a person's voice, handing out instructions to Alexa. The sound quality for music is quite good. Not woofer speakers quality of course, but more than sufficient for listening to your favorite artists and songs. I'm not a totally tech savy person, so I can't give you specific numbers on sound quality, but it serves my purposes well. The setup is fairly smooth, although I did have a couple of glitches that occurred - such as when it was "updating" it stopped halfway through, and despite it telling me not to unplug it, I did and re-started and it finally when all the way thru the process on the 3rd attempt. I think everyone's experience may differ, but it wasn't overly difficult to get it up and running properly. You can use the Alexa app on your phone or you can use the features right on the screen. There's a drop-down menu of options, such as settings, alarms, brightness, etc. that are very easy to navigate. I would recommend experimenting a bit to find settings that agree to your liking. There are tons of commands that you can use. You can make lists, such as Shopping List, Fun Things, etc. For instance just say "Alexa, create an Important Things to Do" list". It will create it and ask you want you want on it. It will add items one by one, all just using your voice. You can delete a list that you want to get rid of. "Alexa, delete my Important Things to Do List". Very easy to add or subtract items, such as "Alexa, delete Bread from my shopping list". Those are just a few examples. This unit does many many things. I don't have lights or cameras set up in my home, so I don't know how using Echo Show 8 does in handling that. But I can tell you every feature this product has works without too much learning or trouble. I would definately buy this product again.

A Game Changer for Morning Routines
I purchased the Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) for my husband, and it has been a game-changer for our mornings. Here's why we love it:**Background:** My husband often struggled to hear his phone alarm and wake up on time. After buying one for my son, I convinced him to give it a try, and now he’s sold.**Likes:**1. **Loud and Clear:** The Echo Show 8 is impressively loud, ensuring that my husband never misses his alarm. It's a significant improvement over his phone's alarm.2. **Customizable Music:** Being able to pick the music that it plays as an alarm is a fantastic feature. It adds a personal touch to the wake-up experience.3. **Alexa Integration:** The fact that it's an Alexa-enabled device is a game-changer. You can simply tell it to snooze or cancel the alarm, making it incredibly convenient.4. **Remote Control:** We appreciate the ability to control it through the Alexa app on our phones. It provides added flexibility and control.5. **Versatile Use:** When it's not functioning as an alarm, it transforms into a stylish digital picture frame. It adds a touch of elegance to any room.**Dislikes:**1. **Nighttime Activation:** One minor drawback is that even when set to "do not disturb," it still lights up if it senses movement at night. This might be a bit distracting for some.Despite this small inconvenience, I would highly recommend the Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen) to anyone in need of a reliable and versatile alarm solution. It's not only practical but also fun to use, and it has made a noticeable difference in our morning routine.

Love it!
I'm not a techie at all so this isn't a review about that, but all it can do for me. Alexa reminds me of anything I want remembered. Wake up calls. What's the weather today. Reminds me to let dogs out, baking, jokes, math. spelling and on and on.......best friend for an old lady like me lol. Definitely recommend!

Needs improvement
Hard to set up. Inconsistent performance. The Doorbell is difficult to program. I have had to use Google to find out how to make adjustments. Ultimately, the Ring support staff were helpful and they transferred me to Amazon Echo support. Otherwise, it was impossible to contact a live person at Amazon. It was difficult for me to determine if a feature is in the Ring or Echo APP.One reason I bought the unit was to have the picture appear on my Eco Show when someone rings the Doorbell. I found that this feature is not available in Canada. And when the view is called for, the pause for the live view to appear is long enough for the person to leave the porch.I have the unit programmed to record people only. During a rain storm, and a blizzard a few days later, the unit did not record some people activity that I saw, and did record “non” people activity.EG: It did record a pickup truck passing my house.A person put something in my mailbox, which is beside my porch, and the Doorbell only recorded them at the mailbox – not arriving or departing. The Doorbell is programmed to record for 90 seconds. I live on a cul de sac of 6 homes. It is a dead end. I often see recordings of people leaving (with a dog, say) and not returning, or returning from a walk, but not leaving. Of course, I don’t know if they are using their back yards. The Doorbell seldom records both the arrival and departure of people across the road when they arrive and depart by car, to visit the house there. It might record one of the two activities.I believe that I DO get recordings of everyone who gets on my porch.Video calls are often not connected, or dropped, and of poor quality.

No es tan útil
Por el precio no vale la pena adquirirlo, no hay diferencia entre tener o no la base.
