Steck Manufacturing 35885 Bed Lifter

Used heavy ratchet straps to remove the bed from a 2004 Ford 150. Was too unstable lifting with a hoist and trying to keep it level. Wasn't going to use that method to install replacement bed. Using the bed lift to install the new bed made it very easy. It took a little adjusting to get the center point where the bed was balanced and level. Then it was just lower the bed onto the frame. Assembly of lift was very easy since there were only 4 bolts and the 5 adjusting knobs. Seemed well made and had a nice paint finish. Quick shipping. Ordered on Sunday and received on Wednesday. The only issue I have is there was no paperwork for the model with manufacturer contact, using the lift, safety procedures, parts, warranty, etc. like you receive with any piece of equipment.

Looks like a well made product with a good rubber coating on the U channels.

The rubberized C-channel that keeps fastened to bed offers No Slippage which is very important to me, also without scratching your paint, the manufacturer included an extra tightening handle which showed consideration, good coat of paint very nice and nothing really to complain about, price was very good and actually the best I could find on the internet... I found the overall quality to be good to excellent. I have welded for many years - the weld quality is decent. Seems like everyone on Amazon is a welding critic - you don't need sexy TIG welds on everything. I like the extra rubber mounting material added to the U sections that make contact with the truck bed. Lifted my 6 foot long 93 Ranger style-side bed with no problem - and I left the tailgate attached to the bed. I had more problems with the limited reach of my engine hoist and so I had to remove the rear bumper. If I had more horizontal reach the bed would not have moved back and hit my bumper. And it may be difficult to balance the load - the extra weight of the tailgate made the load droop some - but no worries. You'll spend more time sliding this fixture around to find the center-of-gravity then you will spend lifting the thing. I chased the threads some for the adjustment knobs nuts - but a very minor annoyance.If you weld - this tool is a make vs buy kind of decision. If you have the steel laying around - you could make something similar and perhaps save a few dollars. Or you could lash some some load straps - which should create a truly scary scene that demonstrates how clever you are - and then upload a crazy YouTube video. But this thing adds safety for the lonely guy pulling his truck bed. And I fully considered the beer cost for the 3-4 buddies you'd need to pull this without a lift - that is an important consideration. MAYBE 2 guys could pull this Ranger bed? How about one guy - slide it off the back onto some kind of ramp? Maybe pulling truck beds could be a category in the Worlds Strongest Man Contest? They could line up many trucks with the bolts removed (with the Steck 35885 Bed Lifter attached for a handle?) and see how many beds one guy can remove in a couple of minutes.And this fixture comes fully painted and really treats your bed side paint with some TLC due to the rubber coated U shaped rail that grip the truck bed. I had it assembled in about 15 minutes - I don't remember seeing any instructions. This is a very good Chinese made tool at a fair price. I think the more Americans complain about Chinese tools - the better they get. So I worry some when I praise any Chinese made tool - they may start slacking off.

I have been using ratchet straps for years to remove beds. Always sketchy and mostly dangerous. Now with this I can be safer. Very heavy duty! Only issue is the numbers on the lifting arms on the right side will always be uoside down. Not a big deal. Other than that this thing is awesome!

we use this with an engine hoist and it works well for most short beds. long beds its hard to get it into the center balance point as the hoist wont reach.but thats not the tools fault,just more of a heads up. an overhead chain hoist or winch works best with this tool.

Great tool to remove the bed little disappointed with the packaging one of the Handel's on the locking Handel broke from delivery 🙄 but other than that it did its job

Works as intended, easily lifted an 80's dodge short box with an engine hoist and the bed lifter. The extension arms have measurements on them to make it easy to square it up A+
