Bullying is not sexy
I was excited at first that this wasn't a harem story. And there were interesting parts to her history. But, what killed it for me, is that I hate it when writers make being bullied out to be something sexy or attractive. It's not. Liam had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He was constantly verbally abusive, dominating, and controlling-- and most of the other males treated her the same in the story. He never even had moments that showed us another side, that it was all a front and he does care about her. All he ever did was hurt her (and reject her), repeatedly. Then suddenly out of the blue at the very end of the book, he's a changed man. But still mean to her and controlling. I think not. Why would she even trust him to be genuine? He did nothing to earn it.It was frustrating how she never resisted Liam and just ignored everything Liam did to hurt her, like sleeping with other women to try to forget her or putting skunk pee on her clothes, all "because they're mates." It made no sense. No one would date this guy.The character's needed more development to have made this come together in a believable enemies to lovers way. Liam needed to dial it back some times, rather than be mean all the time. I actually thought at one point she was going to start to fall for Evan because they kind of had a small moment where she saw into his life and she took care of his wound and then he was always stepping in getting the bullies to back off and trying to diffuse the situation... like that needed to be Liam. And I loved how the disclaimer on this book said "some instances of bullying." The bullying never stopped from the moment she met Liam in Chapter 2 to the very end of the book. Save yourself some time and pass on this.

Shifter trouble
After a run-in with an alpha wolf at a party, the last thing Mia expected was to be accepted into Wolf Moon Academy. But that's exactly where she finds herself. As exciting as it is to attend such a prestigious college, she discovers quickly that there's a pecking order and a lot more going on in the background than she could have ever guessed. While fighting her attraction to Liam is difficult, she's only scratch the surface of the trouble bubbling within. And it might just mean a fight for her survival.I think this is one of my favorites by this author. Mia is a strong heroine with a huge heart, and the way she stands up for herself and those around her is rewarding to see. Liam and his friends are a bunch of bullies who have been brought up to be exactly that, and watching her stand up to them and work to help them change their attitudes makes this such a fun read. The mystery and intrigue going on in the background leads to an exciting adventure and makes me want to discover where she will take us next.

Fast paced start to a series
‘Shadow Mate’ is book one in Jen L. Grey’s Wolf Moon Academy series.A new to me author, recommended this series through an author group I’m in.Mia thought going to her brother Max’s friends party was going to be a normal college experience. What she didn’t expect to happen was to stand up against four alpha wolfs to protect the new friend Bree. When Mia gets an acceptance letter to the Wolf Moon Academy she doesn’t want to accept it as she didn’t apply for it and she didn’t want to upset her brother who got rejected. When her family finally convinces her to go, she finds out that attending WMA isn’t going to be easy. The four males she stood up to are the Blood Council Heirs, the next rulers for the wolf community, and they don’t like that she isn’t afraid or submissive to them.Firstly wow, wow, wow! That was an exhilarating read, great characters, interactive and addictive storyline. Who would have thought attending a Wolf college would consist of high school pranks and drama.Mia is one kicka** female, she isn’t willing to back down and accept the heirs as the all might gods that they believe they are. Although at times Mia seemed a bit timid, she is strong willed and will do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves.Liam doesn’t have the best first impression, he is arrogant, rude, nasty and mean but he eventually grows on you. He has been told one thing his whole life and now Mia is stirring crap up and he isn’t liking it.Bree is a whole other thing, she is naive to what is really going on and a little too trustworthy. But she is the perfect person to be Mia’s friend the two of the help each other out and grow. The rest of the secondary characters help make this story to be an enjoyable read, each and everyone of the bring something different to the story that will have you complete absorbed in the ride.I’m looking forward to continuing this series.
