Comes with a nice app, but the extender has a few flaws.
This extender has a lot going for it; it's small, it's nicely designed (it's not an eye sore like some other boosters; it kind of look like a night light), it's cheap, and it's easy to set up. Best of all, it comes with a neat app that let you:* create a guest network on top of the extended network* analyze your Wi-Fi environment (so you can see which Wi-Fi channel is the least used around you)* set up a timer (to automatically turn off the Wi-Fi at night so your kids don't stay up too late for example)* shows your connection strengthWhen you first plug it in, you feel like you've bought the perfect product; instructions are easy to follow and set up is a breeze. I was able to connect to the extended network with my Ipad without any problem, and my son was able to connect his Xbox and Iphone as well. He went from getting a weak signal in his bedroom to a good one. A speed test done in his bedroom showed a boost from 1.5 to 6 mbps in download speed. It's still much slower than our regular connection (up to 24 mbps) but at least he has a decent signal now. With that being said, this extender has several drawbacks which are why I give it only 3 stars:* As mentioned above, it works well if you use it to bring Wi-Fi to a `dead zone' in your house. However, you may be disappointed if you plan to use it simply to boost an average/fair signal. I only get a fair signal in the master bedroom from the regular network, yet there isn't much difference in download speed between the regular network and the extended one. Sometimes the regular network is actually a bit faster. I can't explain why, it's just what I've observed doing speed tests.* My wife is unable to connect her laptop to the extended network even though she has no problem connecting to the regular network.* Same goes for our Roku; even though the extended network shows up on the Roku network screen, we cannot connect to it. This is a big disappointment considering this was one of the main reasons we bought an extender in the first place.* I'm not sure this one is a fair criticism but from time to time my Ipad switches from one network to the other seemingly randomly; I'm connected to the extended network in the master bedroom, I put the Ipad down, come back a few minutes later and it has connected to the regular network in the meantime. I don't know if it's the Ipad simply connecting to the strongest signal automatically, or if it is the extender that briefly dropped the signal resulting in the ipad going with the only signal left. Either way, it's a drawback.* And most annoying of all, sometimes the extender seems to disrupt the Wi-Fi signal on both the regular and the extended networks. When it happens, I'm unable to connect to either network until I reboot -or unplug- the extender. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens enough to be an annoyance. So the key points from this long review are: it does well as an extender but not necessarily as a booster, and it does drop the signal from time to time. Finally, it does not work with Roku.

Which is horrible! I ordered this Edimax Wi-Fi extender here on ...
I had high hopes for this Ultra-Mini Wi-Fi extender. And perhaps a one star review isn't fair on my part…. because I am basing my low star review on Edimax customer service.Which is horrible!I ordered this Edimax Wi-Fi extender here on Amazon…. and here on Amazon, there was NO warning for Mac users.(I don't blame Amazon, I blame Edimax)When I received this item, there was a mini CD enclosed in the package. This mini CD was enclosed in an envelope, and on theenvelope was a WARNING for Mac users. It warns Mac users to NOT insert this mini CD into a Mac "side-loading" CD slot.(I have a side-loading Mac). The instructions to set-up and use this Edimax Wi-Fi extender are on the Edimax Mini CD.OK, I thought…..I'll just download a user manual from Edimax web site. The Edimax website does not offer a user manual to download…Nor does it have an online manual I could have read.I did find a Customer Service "contact-us" Link.So I sent them an email…. asking where Mac owners could download or read a the user manual.(The day I sent this email to Edimax, just happened to be Xmas eve-Day. I wanted to set-up the Wi-Fi extender as a present).A few minutes after sending my email, I received a return email from Edimax, which said they were closed for the Holliday.Hmmmm…So, I sent another email, asking for Customer Service to please contact me ASAP…. regarding a user manual for side loading Macs. While on the Edimax web site (the 2nd time), I noticed a Customer Service phone number. I called the number. The woman I spoke with had no idea where I would find a user manual…. Nor was she even slightly familiar with the Edimax Wi-Fi Extender.(Think about this: This woman works in "customer service" and receives a pay-check from Edimax for doing nothing… nice job ) !She said she would have someone contact me (via email) right after Xmas.4 days after New Years…. I received a "curt" email from Edimax. The person said to just plug it in, and basically the WiFi Extender was intuitive to use.Sorry, but in my book…. thats not good enough.I sent another (polite) email to Edimax. I told them I wanted to READ the user manual before I just stuck it into the wall.4 or 5 days later, I received a second "curt" email from Edimax. It simply repeated the same information that was in the first email…. but at the end of the email, it finished by saying:"If you have any further question, contact us".Hmmmmm……I figured if it was too much effort for Edimax to send a customer a user manual, what would happen if I had a problem a month or two down the road. (I think that is self explanatory). So, I returned this Wi-Fi Extender to Amazon.Amazon is ALWAYS available, dependable and treats it's customers with respect. Amazon promptly gave me a full refund.

Works well at a bargain price - Easy setup
I live in an art deco building in South Beach. There is a whole lot of old masonry between me and our communal patio so I cannot expect miracles. The net result is a relatively stable one to three bar connection to my phone. I should mention that the actual throughput is better than the connection indicator. Strange.Setup is a breeze. When first plugged in (to an electrical outlet), the device creates a setup SSID with a web server that you can connect to from either a phone or computer via WiFi. I recommend the latter as the setup format isn't entirely mobile compatible. In a few minutes you end up with a new SSID that you can custom name. The password is the same as your router.Make sure that you have a 100% connection between the device and your router. The connection quality is displayed in the setup. No sense having the device repeat a mediocre connection.I got better results when I used an extension cord to lift the device to a shelf. The Android app seems pretty useless useless you want to configure guest access or parental controls. I suppose that I would give this five stars if I got another bar or two.The bottom line is to handle the packaging carefully. It is DEFINITELY worth a try in contrast to repeaters costing two or three times as much. Either it works for you or it does not.

Gracias
