Great product
Good value and very flavorful coffee

Good quality, but rather expensive
Great tasting coffee. Due to the high price I sometimes add about 1/4 of the Arbuckles to a pot with a cheaper store bought brand and it even makes that coffee taste much better.

Old School is still very good.
We discovered Arbuckle's Ariosa at a western museum/Indian trading post in Arizona and following a taste sample bought an expensive pound. Whether boiled (so-called cowboy style) or perked, it's a moderately robust, excellent flavored brew with a good aroma. And the peppermint stick included in each package is appreciated. Through Amazon we're able to buy at a significantly lower price including shipping if 5 pounds or more are ordered. We're coffee snobs with a Bodum burr grinder, Bodum glass pour-over system and an expensive Haro kettle, using up to this point only select boutique coffee roasters beans- now Arbuckle's Ariosa and a campfire style pot/perker are preferred. We do use the Bodum grinder though to get the required coarse grind. But to be honest both my wife and I grew up in a farming community in the 1950's, with both of our fathers boiling their coffee, producing potent brews- I was allowed a couple of ounces of that brew starting at around 8 years old. So, our tastes may be prejudiced.

Outstanding aroma, rich and full-bodied taste...but a bit pricey
Four of our sons (and sons-in-law) are heavy duty coffee drinkers and we thought this would make a great Christmas present for them. They live in New York City, Indiana, Kentucky and California and we were certain this was something they would not all be able to pick up in their local coffee shops. My wife is also a heavy coffee drinker while I don't drink coffee at all. We ordered the Ariosa. The consensus: Everyone (including myself) absolutely loved the aroma. The instant we opened the box the rich coffee aroma filled the entire room (I love the aroma of a good, rich coffee even though I can't stand the taste of the stuff). The boys are in full agreement that the taste is outstanding - a rich, full-bodied flavor. My wife was not in full agreement on this one - she tends to prefer a bit lighter, smoother taste. She does report that adding a touch of cinnamon made it much better for her. But she stressed that it is a really good coffee...especially for those who prefer a drink that just plain doesn't mess around. Some words of advice: This stuff is expensive at $16.95 per pound plus $6.95 per pound shipping. Had we ordered four pounds we would have paid $67.80 for the coffee and $27.80 for shipping for a total of $95.60...for four pounds of coffee! Yikes! But then we noticed that if you order 5 pounds or more they ship it for free. So since my wife is also a coffee drinker we ordered five pounds and spent $84.75. In other words we got five pounds of coffee and paid ten bucks less than we would have if we had bought four pounds. Also - once we had placed the order and it was on the way we suddenly wondered if it would arrive in one huge five pound bag instead of individual one pound bags. That would not have been a happy face moment but not to worry - they did indeed ship it in individual one pound bags. The only reasons we gave it four stars rather than five are (1) no matter how good it is, it is certainly expensive, and (2) if you're in to lighter smoother coffees this stuff may be too intense for your taste.

The coffee that won the west!
Arbuckle's was the only coffee most cowboys knew existed and theres good reason- it's the only one you'll ever need!Rich, bold and delicious, especially when prepared in a boiler, the same way as the cowboys did.And they still hide a peppermint stick in the bag! I use it to bribe my kid into manning the crank grinder so I don't have to!Taste so real, manly American history! This stuff'll put hair on yer chest!

A novelty purchase turned into a great surprise for me. Excellent coffee.
Arbuckle's is referred to often in old western books and movies and when I saw that it was still available, I bought a bag as a novelty. I'm really happy I did. This has become my absolute favorite coffee. It's rich and full bodied. The beans are pretty oily, so be aware of this if you use an auto grind espresso machine. You may have to stir them to the feeder, as I did on my Delonghi, but the flavor is amazing. They include a peppermint stick in every bag as a nod to the tradition of the way it was done in the old west, so remember to remove that before you place the bag in your freezer. I travel to Europe and Asia often and I am always trying to duplicate the great coffee I get there. This brand has been the best yet. I took a sample of the beans to my favorite local coffee shop, and they also loved it.
