I am a delivery technician and as a part of my job I carry a lot of medical equipment in my transit van every day. We are given ratchet straps, but dang, I have no patience to fight with the damn things every time I need to put something in or take something out of the van. Ratchet straps are good but not when you need them every minute and constantly pinch your fingers or wind up with tangled or loose straps laying everywhere and getting caught in everything and rolled up into wheels on the equipment. It is a huge headache. We aren't allowed to use bungees or cambuckle straps or anything else due to an accident one of our drivers had in which a very heavy piece of equipment secured only by a bungee strap nearly crashed through to the front of the van and could have easily killed or injured him. So I have to use ratchet straps as my employer no longer allows other types of straps . . . But not necessarily the ones supplied by the company. I bought a few of these as I sometimes haul stuff outside of work anyway and needed new straps so the timing was perfect to try something new. Well, I bought three sets of these retractable straps and they have been a huge help. No loose straps getting caught underfoot or under other equipment, getting everything in a tangle. No pinching my fingers, no struggling to untwist a strap that's truly stuck in the ratchet. It is a huge improvement. However, they aren't perfect. They can be a little awkward when it comes to unwinding them as you have to have the huge ratchet buckle wide open and pull the strap free while pressing the button to release. Too bad it doesn't have a switch or button that locks that simply unwinds the strap until you flip it back. It would be much smoother that way. Wouldn't hurt if it were a few feet longer either. 15 feet would be perfect length, but 10 is good for most things too. The strap can still twist up and give you problems sometimes and cause a little fighting to free it but it is still a lot easier to fix than with a normal ratchet strap. Doesn't hurt my hands when it happens. Just a few extra tugs and it will come out okay. I don't know how long they will last as I have seen some wear on the straps themselves in the month or two that I have had mine but not too bad. I use them every day and while most of the equipment I load is no more than a few hundred pounds to a strap, I must also mention that I am not ratcheting things down to max capacity either. Mine also don't see any rain or snow. Some reviewers mention that these can break fairly easily when pushed to their limit, but I couldn't say as I simply don't use mine hard enough to find out. The ratchet itself is huge and seems really heavy duty. The retractable feature works most of the time. The straps sometimes go in twisted and then it will stop pulling and often if I am in a rush I will just ratchet down to kill the remaining slack. But most of the time it does work quite well. The best thing to do is to try not to strap things at an angle or to feed the strap in carefully so that it isn't getting mangled. With care, I have no doubt these straps probably do last a good while. I can 100% recommend these for light duty hauling like what I use mine for every day but can't comment on how well these would hold up transporting heavy equipment like cars on a flatbed or something like that. If you aren't hauling Fort Knox in your pickup bed, this strap should be fine. Got a riding mower to transport on your utility trailer? This strap is definitely capable of that. But keep in mind the ratchet on this thing is huge. It isn't as rinky-dink as some of these other straps. I bought all mine used as the price is a little higher for a set but as long as the straps hold up a few years I would say these are good enough to just about make regular ratchet straps obsolete.

Great straps - work as advertised. Love that I don't have to wind them up anymore, and makes using them much nicer. They are quite a bit bigger and heavier though, so there's that.

Love retractable straps. All other ones are a pain in the rear end. High quality
