Already showing signs of breakage and moreover, failed test as EMF shield
I was really looking forward to getting this case. My first impression was that this case is rather flimsy and it doesn't seem very protective of the phone. Whereas my OtterBox defender protects the speaker, lightning connector and headphone jack with an extra layer of rubberized plastic, the stingray is simply open at the bottom, leaving these ports wide open to dust etc. Also, the "wood" design on the back is made of plastic-looks pretty cheesy. Perhaps this might seem like a case of high expectations, but with a product that lists for over $100, I would've thought it should have a classier look. Besides its cheap looking design and feel, the plastic backing that connects to the rubberized case is already cracking on one side. (Note: the case was dropped just once and I am assuming that's what cracked the plastic side clasp.)If you're reading this review you're probably most concerned with whether or not it is effective regarding EMF protection. I have a friend who is very sensitive to EMFs and owns a decent EMF meter. I went over to her house this afternoon with my iPhone 6s and used her EMF meter to test the phone with the case on and off. The unit we used is not cheap; it's called the Acousticom 2 and goes for about $250. (Gets great reviews on Amazon by the way.) I tried it first with the case on and the readings were surprisingly high. I should mention that her house is shielded from EMFs and has no wifi, not even a cordless phone. We first tried the meter with the phone off and left on her porch-the meter barely showed anything at all on the readout, just one bar. So that was our reference point. I then brought the phone in and turned it on. In close proximity to the EMF meter, the readout pinned all the way to the top! I had my friend pull back about 8 feet, so that we could get a reading that didn't pin the meter. I turned the 6S directly towards the meter, and also tried it side to side as Stingray claims the EMF energy is diverted away to the sides when the user faces the screen. No change. We tried this without the case as well. I was surprised to see that there was absolutely no difference from when the case was on the unit. We tried it from different distances, 3ft, 8ft and 10ft, which we measured precisely as we could. As I mentioned, the meter tended to pin in very close proximity, and it did so with or without the case. (iPhones are notorious for their high EMF output, the 6s moreso than other models.) No matter which way we turned the iPhone 6s, we got pretty much the same readings, regardless of whether the case was on or off. Once again, I want to emphasize that my friend does not own a smart phone and uses no Wi-Fi at all in her house. She doesn't even have a smart meter, so there was no other nearby source to confuse the meter - I feel this was a pretty accurate test in that it eliminated all the variables. So, unless I have a faulty case, it appears this unit does not do what the company claims: ie, it does Not lower the amount of EMFs nor does it divert the EMFs away to the sides when the user faces the screen. In short, I am extremely disappointed with this case and find it to be a total fail.

It works... it reduces RF entering your brain...
I test RF signals quite frequently... the premise behind this product is fundamentally sound. RF is a form of electricity. All electricity prefers the path of least resistance. A cell phone emits radiation in all directions...think of the cell phone being inside a basketball, the outside of the ball is the emitting radiation. The goal of the cell phone maker is to get good reception...they are not concerned about passing RF through your brain... there is no regulations for such, so the goal is to sell phones...better reception gets better reviews, creates more sales....There is plenty of studies that support how RF at Cell phone frequency and signal strength create biological cell damage. Google it to learn more. IMO, in due time, there will be changes in cell phone manufacturing safety laws.the premise of this, and other similar products, is to substantially reduce the amount of RF that exits the phone through your brain. AS RF signal strength decreases by the inverse of the square, so every time time double the distance, the signal strength is reduced by 75%. Considering the phone is often 1 inch from you brain, the brain is getting maximum RF dosage. Using the phone in speaker phone mode, and holding phone 2-3ft from your body reduces signal strength to the brain by 80-90%...so distance matters. However, this is not always possible... a head set helps, but RF travels up the chord into the ear buds.... BT headsets produce their own RF signals in addition to the phones RF, but still an improvement, as BT signals have a very limited range... . such as 30ft, vs. 30 miles for a cell phone signal.RF like all electricity is attracted to good conductors such as metal. This phone case attracts the RF signals as the case is designed specifically for the iphone 5 and 6, where the antenna location is fixed.... 75-85% of the emitted RF is pulled through the metal, and re directed outward away from you brain as per the diagram in the product description. My prelim. test confirm this. However, re directing the signal, at times can have consequences, as the outside of the case needs to get the signal to the tower.... if the tower is located towards the outside of the case, this case will actually improve signal strength. OTOH, if the tower is located on the opposite side of your head, the signal can be greatly reduced as it must bounce of other objects to find the cell tower... in a wide open area, with nothing to deflect the signal, u might need to orient yourself so the outside of the case is facing the tower. All this is dependent on how far u are from the tower and how open the space is... but IMO, this is a small price to pay to gain potential safety benefits... remember, cigarettes were deemed safe by the US Govt for 80+ years before they finally came to the conclusion, its killing people. It's a 50 yr cycle, as lobbyist have huge influence on legislation. As other have pointed out...the case is wood grain, and a deep dark grain to boot. I am sure it does appeal to some earthy types, but seems like an odd choice for an electronic device. I can only assume the maker will provide many different case designs in the near future.... people seem to be more concerned how their phone looks, vs. potential health dangers...Regardless, Kudos to the maker for producing a product that benefits our health! Specially for those who talk non stop on the phone!
