Will this adapter work if I want to mount my monitors in Portrait (i.e. Vertical) orientation?

The adapter was designed to only mount the monitor in landscape orientation - it uses the force of gravity to ensure the monitor is held stable on the adapter

Will it work with samsung u28e590d and if it does, how does it fit?

It works, though the distance between the bottom of the monitor and the top of the desk (aka the useful space you're trying to free up by putting your monitor on an arm in the first place) gets reduced by about 3.25", which makes it hard to put anything under the monitor. Also, with this adapter on, I can't tilt my monitor upwards, which is unfortunate, because I wanted to use that position: it's supposed to be more ergonomic.If you buy this adapter, I strongly suggest using the longer screws that come with the adapter to connect your monitor stem to the adapter, and to use the VESA screws that come with your monitor arm to attach this adapter to the arm. The monitor screws that come with this adapter are laughably short and totally insufficient - I tried attaching the monitor stem (no monitor) with the given screws and it immediately flopped over because it was only held up by one or two threads. It's scary to think what would have happened to my monitor if that had been attached to the stem at the time.

I have a s24e390h model without holes on the back. How does this attach to it?

The VESA adapter attaches to the monitor's stand's neck, so you are able to use a monitor mount to mount your monitor since that particular model does not come with the VESA holes on the back of the monitor.
