very reliable, great interface application, easy to set up
These are the best temperature sensors ever. I have had two working for the last three years with no issues ever. I just bought the new one that has ac backup power. The setup was easier than any other similar wi fi based product that I have ever used - excellent. The application on your phone for sensor data, alerts and such is very well designed and intuitive. I love the ability to change time scales on the data shown, and look at old data as well. The system is robust to power and wi-fi outages, always comes back online. With the lithium batteries, I get a year plus of life on the default once per hour data update. I used to pay over 30 dollars a month for a cellular network based product when I did not have wifi at my 2nd house. I decided to just take that money and use toward the cost of wi-fi and have all the other benefits of having wifi. Paying up front in the sensor price for the monitoring is the way to go in the long run - one less bill to deal with and cost to increase. The price for the sensor is very reasonable. The ac version comes with the usb power supply and cable.

Great device for monitoring temperature
We use this to monitor outside animal shelters . They work really well and have outstanding support. Super easy to setup and lots of flexibility to set alerts if the temperature gets to high or to low. Highly recommend for anywhere you need to monitor temperature.

This thing works so reliably!
I used this thing to check if my fridge was staying cool enough. It's really easy to set up, there's step-by-step instructions included and even somebody who is clueless like myself could do it. I did have a problem accessing the setup page but that's because I had a bad browser on my phone (Opera) and switching to a normal browser like Firefox fixed the logging in problem. When you open the app on your phone you get a nice graph of the temperature and humidity. You can pick the time range in days/weeks to look at it historically, including the last 24 hours. You can click on data points to see the exact temperature and humidity at that point but it also reports the highs, lows, and average. What I like is the simplicity of the app: no ads, no nagging, easy to use. It just shows you info and that's it, exactly as it should be. The software developers that made this thing should be commended for sticking with a "keep it simple" philosophy because it's so easy to use. About privacy you do have to register an account with Ideal Sciences (Temp Stick creator) but they don't want any info other than a user name and password. And you do have to give the Temp Stick device your WiFi password so it can join the network, which is understandable. I can't find any information about their privacy policy or security policy though -- no reason to doubt them and maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I would like to know more about that. My wish list for improvements would be: 1. Some way to pinch to zoom in/out on the graph and scroll left and right through it. 2. Able to look at the last N hours instead of 24 hours. These are minor issues though. For fridge users, my experience is that every time the door opens the humidity goes up, and if you accidentally leave the door ajar the humidity stays up. So the humidity graph is a great thing to check first to see when the door was open. Then check the temp graph at the same location. What I learned from using the Temp Stick is that my fridge is just fine, but putting warm food in really does make it work harder and I need to set the cooling level a little lower than I thought. I'd never know otherwise! Anyway the Temp Stick is a little pricey but in my experience it's 100% reliably, easy to set up, easy to use, and very, very convenient.

Working flawlessly in multiple walk-in coolers *UPDATE AC adapter to replace batteries*
The battery life is okay, but there is nothing better than plugging into an AC outlet. I'm including a link for an AC adapter that works great with the Temp Stick. You of course need an outlet near by. Use the "dummy" batteries for set-up. The one with the cord attached is the one you will pull out 6 times to enter set up. You can also just plug and unplug the barrel connector (part of the AC adapter kit) 6 times to put the Temp Stick in set up mode. I drilled a hole the width of the thin ribbon cable in the corner of the battery compartment cover that connects to the one dummy battery and leads to the plug part of the adapter. This will keep the cable from getting damaged. If you are looking at the front face of the Temp Stick / battery cover, I drilled the hole in the bottom left part of the battery compartment cover. The dummy battery with the wire is then placed on the left side of the battery compartment, and you can run the cable through the hole in the cover. You will have to snip the edge of the hole you drilled to create a gap to slip the cable through. It's possible to close the battery cover on the ribbon cable without drilling a hole, but I didn't want to risk damaging the cable. I have had these plugged in and running for weeks now. The work great. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096NCTFSG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I have 7 walk-in coolers and countless commercial refrigerators running 24/7. I'm in the process of having a new walk-in installed currently, and got a quote for a remote temperature monitoring system from the manufacturer. The unit was quoted at $720.00. Many of these require monthly monitoring contracts. Temp Stick takes about 5 minutes to set-up and mount (some of the easiest tech to deploy in recent memory). The wireless radio seems robust, and I've had zero issues installing these inside walk-in coolers and connecting and staying connected to my wireless networks. You can do it all from your smartphone. The online portal is free (just like the phone app). I also have some Emerson Sensi smart thermostats (that are also a great value and are very intuitive to use). The only complaint on those is that the phone app is free, but the online portal (actual computer access) is $1.00 a month per thermostat. Temp Stick gives you both for free. The Temp Stick app and online portal give tons of valuable information, and battery status is included in that info (so you will know when to replace the batteries before they die). I haven't imagined a feature that I would like that is not included. Very thoughtful execution on the product and the customer facing interface. I've had many refrigerators and walk-ins break down overnight, only to show up in the morning to find thousands of dollars of food spoiled. It's a really bad start to the day. If Temp Stick saves me only one time by alerting me to a failed cooler (and it will), it will pay for all seven Temp Stick purchases in one fell swoop. Great product.

Almost perfect
Governmental regulations require we document the presence or absence of temperature excursions for our medical research areas. We have min/max thermometers. However, they do not give real time data to prevent temperature excursions before they happen. Using the tempstick, we can set the temperature alert value at a level that might suggest a trend towards an excursion, allowing us time to correct the problem before it happens. PROS: A lot of thought clearly went into crafting this product, and its website interface. It does so many things right that I am surprised it has virtually no competition (as far as I can tell, and as of the time of this writing). This device also works via a PC, and does not require a smartphone or smartphone app. I set it up from my laptop. Tip: Once on the tempstick website website, if you are in full screen mode, the all important menus will be on the left, otherwise, the menu will be at the top of the screen. Once set up, the tempstick website allows the user to review the temperature and humidity logs online. Finally, when I had questions, I received responses to email questions in less than 24 hours. CONS: While true the installation, login, and setup process is easy, it was easy for me only once I spent some time learning how to do it. I was initially not able to set up the device because my laptop was plugged into our network. Even though I chose the tempstick wireless connection, it would not connect until I physically unplugged the wired ethernet cable from my laptop. The menu is not arranged in the order best to set up the device. It is best to first setup the Accounts and Contacts, followed by Sensors. My recommendation is to set up the Alerts last. Having the Contacts already entered will allow you to select Contacts in the Alert setup. The alert message includes the temp you set. But in addition, it also automatically sends a message of a temperature 10 degrees higher than what you set. I don't know why. Once the device begins to read temperatures, you cannot delete log data. This is potentially problematic in a regulatory setting. Because if you set up your device in a non-storage area, with initial temperatures not within the desired range, then the logs will forever show a potential temperature excursion at the time of the setup. While likely less convenient, I recommend you set up the device in the storage area where the device is to be used. Also, this device is powered by a battery. This makes sense if you do not have a backup battery. However, if your storage area has a backup battery, then it would be nice to have a plug-in version. The challenge with the battery is that the device gives no warning when the battery is low. The manufacturer suggests you routinely go to the website (dashboard or sensors page), where you will find the battery charge level. But if the idea is to have a device that will alert you by text and/or email about important temperature excursions, then it would be preferable to also be warned when the battery is low, rather than having to monitor the battery status by routinely going to the website. OVERALL: Overall, the Temp Stick Wireless Temperature Sensor 24/7 Monitoring device is amazing technology. While very good already, a few improvements, and a few additions to its FAQ would easily make this a 5 star product when used for the specific purpose mentioned above.

Peace of mind is worth the price
Our expensive 2 year old fridge suddenly stopped cooling, and we lost $200 in groceries that were bought the day before the failure. We did some research and some home troubleshooting that seemed to fix it after a few days, so we re-stocked the fridge. Within 2 days, it failed again and we lost all those groceries too. At that point I was so paranoid about not being able to trust the fridge (we have folks with significant health issues in the house, and so having safe food is EXTREMELY important), so I started looking around for a temperature alarm. I wanted something that didn't require a subscription, that monitored the temperature, which would also alert my phone/email of any big temperature fluctuations or when the temp went into the danger zone (over 40F). I wanted something that could also export the data, so we could show it to the warranty company and the repair technician. This fit the bill best, so even though it was significantly more expensive than I wanted, I got it. I'm so glad I did! It works wonderfully - we tested its temperature readings vs an analog thermometer & a laser thermometer for the first week and it always came out within a couple tenths of a degree. The app is easy to use and unobtrusive. The text alerts work very well with almost no delay. I didn't expect the ability to make it to readings more frequently when it finds the temperature outside of a set range, but that is now my favorite feature. I wish you could export the data to a spreadsheet file from the app, but you can only do that from the website. When the repair guy came, we showed him the graphs of the temperature fluctuations the fridge had been experiencing in the week and a half between the first issue and his arrival, and his mind was blown. He'd never seen anything like it, and raved about how much easier it made diagnosing the issue for him. He said that without these graphs, he'd have had to assume a smaller problem and try that first, which he was confident it *wasn't*, which would've wasted weeks more time before being able to get him back out when that fix didn't work. Since he could see the graphs and see how wildly the temperature was swinging and how long it was staying above 40F, he was able to get right to the actual problem without having to follow company policy of doing the cheaper, less-likely repair first. He installed a couple new parts, and told us how to troubleshoot that ourselves if it didn't work. He said if we had to call back to schedule another warranty repair, to tell them about the graphs and list the readings for them on the phone so they could order the appropriate parts ahead of time. Thankfully, we didn't need to do that since his first repair seems to have fixed the problem well enough that we've now gone three weeks without it ever going above 40F for longer than 15 minutes (after someone opens the fridge for more than a minute or so). I'm so happy with this thing, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind - and the time saved on unnecessary repairs.

If you need alerts, look for a different solution.
This device was purchased to monitor temperature in a walkin freezer that was experiencing issues. Parts were ordered, but we needed to monitor it in order to keep the products inside frozen. The first 2 - 3 weeks this item worked correctly. It sent emails, text messages and phone emails correctly. Then the text and phone email alerts stopped, only the emails went through. I contacted technical support and I was told that all the messages were going out of their systems and it was the carriers problem. I worked with our cellular carrier over the course of two days and conclusively determined that no messages were coming from the Ideal Sciences systems into the cellular system. Upon finally getting a live person from technical support they made me repeat all the tests that the previous Ideal Sciences support person had performed. Then I was told the same thing, that it was the cellular provider. When I described the tests and results of troubleshooting with the cellular provider, we had to repeat them. So I cooperated and went through all the tests with them. Then the support person broke down and admitted that they were having trouble with their email to SMS gateway and they should have it addressed "soon". Three business days later (over a weekend) on a Wednesday after 17 calls I was able to get a live support person. I identified myself and gave a brief history of the situation. I was told that they would have the problem fixed by Friday. When I asked what the issue was (professional curiosity as an IT professional myself), I was told that they haven't found what the problem was. So I asked, if you don't know what the problem is how can you be certain you'll have it fixed in two days on Friday. They said they were still working on it. They had no other answer. During these calls I never raised my voice or used foul language. Performing testing on my own, with the help of friends and colleagues that have cell phones from different companies than our own, I tested email, text message and phone email alerting. With all 5 companies we tested with emails went through, but no text alerts and no phone email alerts went through. The freezer kept having issues, but as I do not sit in front of my email 24/7 and we depended on the alerts getting to our phones. We ended up setting alarms and waking someone up every two hours to manually monitor the situation. I have not been able to get voice or email contact from technical support at Ideal Sciences in over 3 weeks. I send emails, I leave voice message; no response. I have done complete resets on the device, added new batteries etc. Set up new contacts, new alert phone numbers, emails addresses and phone emails. Nothing gets through except the basic emails. Nothing that will land on a cell phone for alerts. This issue is not an issue with the device itself, but an issue with their computers that you are required to use with these devices. There is no way to query the tempstick on your own wireless network, even knowing the MAC address. So without alerting this device is less than worthless. I say because as it gives the appearance of usefulness, but does nothing. There are other solutions to be had. I suggest you investigate them and avoid trusting anything to Ideal Sciences.

Good product
I had used a different brand of temperature sensors for several years. Price per sensor was much less. But the phone app for that brand was horrible, setup was fiddly, you had to wait for data to download from the cloud to look at it, and battery life was not great. Tempstick sensors are more expensive to buy. But the app is easy to use and useful and temperature and humidity data is always available. So far battery life is excellent. The build quality is significantly better than the other brand I tried. They are easy to set up. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I've ordered several more.
