The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci 1000 Piece Puzzle Jigsaw Puzzle 27 x 19in

I received this puzzle as a gift. The puzzle only has two different shapes for the border and then just one shape for the rest of the puzzle. The colors are very dark. Pieces fit in multiple places. The biggest problem is that the puzzle came with a damaged piece (see picture). The piece has white patches on it and is located in the darkest area of the puzzle, in the center! Also, the puzzle came missing one piece. I filled out a form on the company's website but it only allows for a "missing piece" type of claim (not for the damaged piece) and it requires a receipt and place of purchase. My friend bought this for me and I don't want her to know that the puzzle came defective. I tried to call the company's customer service but the phone number is in Canada.
