Massive and absolutely lovely
Look, if you don't have a spider strainer in your kitchen, you really should get one. I prefer ones like this with a wooden handle for a few reasons. First, and foremost, they're way sturdier. I've had a few of the metal-handled ones that wobble back and forth, which, if you're deep frying, is no good. These ones won't budge an inch. Second, you can do the "chopstick" trick with oil with this wooden handle. Basically, you can put it in the oil, and if it sizzles a bit, the oil is hot enough to fry. The 7 inch one is really massive, definitely too big for a little pan job, but I adore it for doing batches of noodles or fried goods.

This is a lot bigger than I thought
This came in a lot bigger than I thought it would be, but I am still using it for deep frying. Works perfectly and nice construction. It should last.

love this thing-very well built
Ive been looking for a larger brass spider. I had a steel one, but it rusted apart. I've had a smaller brass spider that's lasted 20+ years. This is just as good of quality.

Great old school device for deep frying
For some reason this great old schoolbrass strainer works the best for picking your food out of the deep fryer. Tried them all and this really is the best. Not easy to clean though, best to rinse it clean while still hot.

I have used one for years to "strain" pasta instead of draining - much safer than carrying a large pot of boiling water to sink; I usually move it directly into my prepared sauce - I always break long pastas (linguine et al) in half - and fan into the boiling water - much easier to stir and prevent sticking while cooking - these are easily scooped up with the strainer, and of course short macaronis are simple to do this way. When my twenty something granddaughter burned herself draining - I sent her one - and got two more for my other granddaughters -
