Black Synthetic Install
"light duty", chilling words to associate with any firearm. So, I,m looking for a way to mount a combo flashlight/lazer on my M1A Socom 16 synthetic stock that wont interfere with iron sights. Found this rail, advertised as light duty, touted as a tripod mount. The instructions state that when mounting this rail on the synthetic stock, you must remove the threaded inserts that the sling swivel mounting screws attach to. If you follow this instruction, you are causing 1/4 inch clearance holes for the 1/8 diameter screws to pass through, creating loss of stability . Also, the stock is quite thin at this location, which could cause future failure of the mounting holes in the stock and in turn, loosening of the mounting screws which could damage the threads in the rail. Its too bad they didnt design this rail so that it attaches the same as the sling mount, screws passing through the rail holes and threading into the stock. So, I did the right thing and didnt follow directions. I left the stocks threaded inserts in place, screwed through them, through the sling swivel and into the rail threads, this caused a gap of .020 between the sling swivel/rail and stock. Then I fabricated a .020 shim from an empty paint thinner can, placed it between the sling swivel and the rail resulting in full contact of the sandwiched items with the stock. Strategically placed gel super glue to mating surfaces and thread locker to the screws. The screws provided have only 3/8" of threads, I used screws with 5/8" of threads. I wont be using this rail to mount a tripod, and I do not recommend this rail system for tripod mounting. The combination of 308 recoil and the resistance to recoil caused by the tripods friction to bench could potentially stretch the threads in the aluminum rail leading to looseness and failure of the rail. I like the concept of this rail, just dont believe it is tripod mounting worthy. My tripod mount attaches to the exposed gas tube. My flashlight/laser pointer attaches to this "light duty" rail. I hope this helps and I hope that the manufacturer reads this and reconsiders the design ....

Solid piece
I mounted this on my Springfield Armory standard rifle that sits in a VLTOR mod-stock. Mounting it was a breeze and I used thread locker for the included screws. I recommend using some type of epoxy etc. if you plan to make this permanent. This area in the stock will be taking a lot of wear and tear from bipod use if that is your intended purpose. Plenty of videos on that if you need to check it out. The mount itself is very well made! Fit and finish are excellent. Highly recommended!
