Race to the South Pole (Ranger in Time #4) (4) Paperback – June 28, 2016

Once again, Ranger sets off through time to help a young person in trouble. He arrives in time to save Jack Nin from drowning. As Ranger travels with Jack and the rest of Captain Scott's crew, he has not idea that he will see and experience things that few ever do, penguins, killer whales, nasty blizzards, and deep crevasses. But through it all Ranger travels by Jack's side wondering when he'll get to go home. I enjoyed traveling with Ranger and Jack as Jack learns for the first time just what being an adventurer means. For a long time he thinks that fame and fortune is what it's all about, but slowly he learns that maybe adventure isn't quite as much fun as he has always thought. Messner has done a great job of using details from accounts taken from some of those who actually traveled with Scott to create a believable story with lots of exciting details. Another fun read in an appealing series.

Sir Robert Scott is one of my heroes. I love how this book makes the story accessible to kids without getting into the sad details of the end that younger kids might not be ready to hear. I also like how ranger and the other character were added in a way that didn’t change the narrative.

I purchased these book because of my granddaughter's love of animals and the fact that they offer a history lesson. In a way that is entertaining and informative they tell the story about a moment in history that she may never know about. There is only so much that can be covered in school but isn't great that children learn while doing something they love. I always try to have a few new books for sleepovers at Grammy's and these are high on the list.

My 8 year old loves the series. This is the second one we will read. It is great that she can learn history and improve her reading too. It is even good for parents too.

Very good adventure book. Fast-paced and full of excitement. Great for some of my grandkids.

Great series for begging chapter book readers. My 7 year old loves the Ranger books and my 5 year old loves to listen to the stories. Well written and enjoyed by all ages!
