Nice book for someone looking for an overview, well illustrated

Beautiful book with mostly illustrations; but pretty basic. Anyone who has taken a history or history of art class will know most of this. I doesn't really tell you what life was like

A beautifully and thoughtfully laid out introduction to the Middle Ages, digestible in two or three sittings. My favourite aspect of the book is the fact that topics are rarely discussed in the abstract, but are instead explained and illustrated via specific events in the lives of specific people. All the major points are covered. The book is so full of love for the period that it almost makes you wish you had lived back then -- as long as you weren't a serf or ever got sick.

My son and I belong to the SCA and this helped to understand what life was like back then

I love this series. I used this text as a resource in my British Literature class to give students a clear idea of many cultural aspects of medieval life with which they were not familiar. The text is simple, yet informative; the illustrations are outstanding. What a joy this book is.

Time Life books did it again. Beautiful illustrations,educationl,interesting. This book has it all. It's a book you won't want to put dowm.
