Is the soleplate made of steel?

Its this durathon stuff. I have at least 10 year old Hamilton Beach and the soleplate looks like NEW. It is amazing, not a scratch on it. Stuff doesn't stick to it. Cord is getting loose and this iron is still so great I am thinking about taking it to fix-it shop. No drips, good steam and smooth, smooth sole plate.

Does this iron let you know when it's up to temp?

Yes - a light blinks while it is getting to the programmed temp and then goes solid when it reaches the temperature. It's a great iron - I still love it!

To avail warranty Customer Service is asking for 10 dollars in name of shipping.. Pls beware before buying..?

If this iron does not operate before warranty there is a 95% chance it was not used correctly or was dropped. Don't bother with the warranty - especially if it is leaking. Buy another one.
