Buen libro para empezar en este estilo de música. La didáctica me parece acertada. El detalle de que los audios están disponibles online y no en CD, que ya mucha gente no puede reproducir en casa, me gusta mucho.

This is a tremendous resource. The book is good, but if you buy it and don't take advantage of the downloads, you'll miss hours of Dr. John himself talking about, and demonstrating, elements of New Orleans piano styles and techniques. He was a brilliant musician and a living encyclopedia. This is not an instructional manual that will take you by your little hand, teach you where middle C is and how to read music, and guide you step by careful, lucid step through all the piano technique you need to start playing like Dr. John in ten Big Easy steps. It's more of an immersion experience. You need to use your ears and your brain, and have patience and curiosity, and some basic appreciation of the brilliance of being able to (sort of) hang out with Dr. John. It's amazing and wonderful that he did this project! It's a terrific launching point for all kinds of exploration, and learning and experimenting more outside this book can make returning to it a lot more valuable: "Oh, yeah, I learned this and - hey, THAT's what he means in Chapter 2!" The more you learn, the more layers you can uncover in this material. Highly recommended. And don't forget to listen to both volumes of Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack!

Das Buch gibt einen guten Einblick in verschiedene Stile der Blues, Boogie und Madrid Gras Musik (Inhaltsverzeichnis anbei). Die Notenbeispiele sind jeweils recht kurz (max. 4 Seiten) und nicht all zu schwer zu spielen - abgesehen davon, dass Dr. John sehr oft Dezimen in der linken Hand spielt. Das schwierige an dieser Musik ist aus meiner Sicht die Phrasierung, wofür die wirklich sehr guten Aufnahmen, auf denen Dr. John selbst erklärt und spielt, per Downloadcode beigegeben sind. Viele der Stücke aus dem Buch spielt er auch auf seinem Solo Album Dr. John plays Mac Rebennack - falls jemand vorab hören möchte , worum es hier geht. Große Freude für mich und manche meiner Klavierschüler!
