Great for beginners.
Got these to replace the really, really cheap ones that came with the punching bag we bought - and they're a nice upgrade. Easy to slip on and off, nice and sturdy so the punches don't hurt much, and quality all the way around. I like these as a complete neophyte boxer / puncher - they work very well for my needs.

Solid gloves for a beginner
These gloves don't cost a fortune, but also give nice protection and comfort. They protect my son's hands well, are easy to get on and off, and look pretty cool while doing so. Overall, these are a solid option for beginners in the MMA arena.
