How Shoes are Made: A behind the scenes look at a real sneaker factory

This was a gift to a family member that has an interest in sneakers. Very well written and understandable.

I own a Sail Rite heavy-duty sewing machine (for making sailboat sails). So I thought I would try using it to sew simple leather shoes, like moccasins.I found this book on a web site entitled something like "Sneakerfactory." According to the web site, this book, and its companions, plus other information available there, provide everything needed to design and build a shoe.However, after reading this book, I have learned absolutely nothing about how to design a shoe. I usually do not feel annoyed when I waste a small amount of money on a purchase ($ 14.00 for the Kindle version), but things are different today. I am annoyed at the money, and the loss of time spent examining the book.Let me make an analogy. If you take a high school field trip to a General Motors assembly plant, you will see some interesting stuff. But you will learn absolutely nothing about how to replace a water pump, or change your oil.This book is similar. Zero practical information on making a moccasin (which may be the simplest possible shoe, next to a flip-flop). But plenty of photos of machinery inside shoe factories in China.I did find some moccasin patterns at Crazy Crow Trading Post for about ten dollars, and they look pretty good.

If you are interested in designing shoes, read this book. If you want to start and own a shoe company, read this book. If you already have a brand and are interested in adding shoes to your lineup, read this book. Plainly said, this book will save you time and frustration assessing the footwear industry and if it's something for you. If you’re thinking of participating in the shoe game in any way, the contents of this book will add significant value to your vision, plans, business, etc. How Shoes are Made is a goldmine of useful information that you can immediately integrate into your footwear dreams, I highly recommend it.

I have purchased all 3 of these books and they are a wealth of insight and information. Furthermore, I have been able to email Wade and received helpful responses from him. Really recommended.

I love this book!! I bought it as a coffee table book for our home because my husband is a novice designer and loves this stuff but came to find out that it has something for everyone to learn from. It is so interesting to delve into a world you know nothing about and learn so much!! Mr Motawi is a great author and i hope he writes other informational books!! thank you!
