Sideclick Remotes SC2-APG3K Universal Remote Attachment for Apple TV

I'm not sure why it has both a + and - button along with an up arrow and down arrow button. Apple TV remotes already have volume up/down buttons so one set seems like one set too many. But it has a total of 8 programmable buttons... I wish it had more. It works just as it claims. It works well. It was very simple to program. It makes it easier for me to hold my Applet TV remote and harder to lose it. :) It doesn't take advantage of the rechargeable nature of the latest Apple TV remotes. It takes three 4A batteries. Is this a flaw, not really. The older Apple TV remotes used a disposable battery. It would be nice to recharge my Applet TV remote and have it recharge the SideClick. Maybe in a future model. The biggest praise I give it is for it's design. It is very sleek and comfortable. I am guessing that asked real users (not just family members or friends) for input when designing it.

Universal remotes are so overcomplicated: they have every possible button that you might imagine, they make you search for codes, and they're so confusing it's almost easier to simply use the original set of 3+ remotes. Typically, when you use a remote, you use power, volume, input, and maybe directional pointers. But really, you're buying a universal remote for only 5 buttons. Well guess what: this universal remote has 8 buttons which can be programmed to do whatever you want, and you don't have to search for codes.In a little more depth, I recently "cut the cord", removing cable television and using streaming services only. The old Apple TV (which is what this universal remote is made for) doesn't control the tv like the new Apple TVs. So, you still needed the TV remote to turn the TV on and off, and to control the volume. Meet the Sideclick: it allows you to slide the Apple TV remote into place alongside 8 programmable buttons. So now, I have essentially one remote that turns the TV off and on and control the volume, while in the same hand also having access to the Apple TV controls. Even better: I got an over-the-air antenna, programmed one button for input, and two of the buttons for Channel up/down, and now I can watch live, HD TV from the local networks, and then input back to Apple TV to stream everything else.In addition, the quality is great, the colors match the Apple TV remote perfectly, and I just can't emphasize enough how simple this is. Skip EVERY OTHER universal remote if all you're going to use is a streaming device (this one is for the older generation Apple TVs, but they also have the same setup for the newer Apple TVs in case your TV doesn't allow for it to be controlled by Apple, and for other systems like Roku). Great great great!

These remotes are WONDERFUL! I don't have cable/satellite tv anymore, I watch either thru Amazon Fire TV or broadcast antenna or a Mac Mini hooked up to the TV but I hated having to keep two remotes, one just to turn the TV on and off and control volume. This remote and the one for the Amazon Fire TV remote have solved my problem, saved room and I like the slightly added weight to the light Fire TV and Mac remotes, makes it easier to press a button on both of them while laying on the table (the Fire TV remote's back is rounded, pushing a button simply made it roll over). Programming was a snap too!

This is the second sideclick I have. Other one is used with fire stick. I love that it adds weight to the apple remote so that it is not so easy to lose. Buttons are easy to program to any button. Programmed the volume buttons to mute and guide for my tv. Batteries last a long time, still have the same ones in my old one from over a year ago. Description is wrong, comes with 2 brackets for any apple remote, new or old.

It was so fast to program, and it works like a charm. As a bonus, it makes keeping track of that slippery little remote a whole lot easier! One ding on durability, because the whole thing could be just a bit stronger where the holster for the Apple TV remote clips to the battery-powered universal remote (the holsters are interchangeable for different remotes, and then those holsters attach to the universal remote, which is a separate piece that has sliding clips that could be stronger).

I really like these, I got one for my Mom and one for us and it is really nice to be able to turn on/off our TV and adjust volume without looking for a separate remote. Works great and looks like it was made by Apple, happy with this purchase.For added convenience, my fiancé glued a strong magnet to the back of this and then attached a large steel washer on the wall above our pillows, so now we just magnetically store the remote on the metal circle for easy grabbing and putting back. This has really helped as well, as we used to constantly lose this little remote in the sheets.

I purchased this remote for my mom because it solved 2 problems: 1) no more calling me in the afternoon forgetting which remote turns on the tv and changes the volume,2) no more losing the apple tv remote because it slipped between the couch cushions.

My 6 year old daughter has a hard time keeping up with one remote, let alone two remotes. She could never find the tv remote that controlled the volume and power. We don’t have cable so she only uses the Apple TV for Netflix and her Disney movies I’ve purchased. I got tired of having to go to her room to turn the tv on and off (her tv is mounted). This little gadget is awesome! It worked the first time I set it up. I had to YouTube the instructions. I highly recommend this!
