Uncle Wiggily's Storybook (The Jim Weiss Audio Collection) Audio CD – CD, October 1, 2015

Stories on CD are big in our house. My four-year-old boy has been listening to stories on CD since he was about 2. He does so while playing quiet activities in the play room. It is a very calming experience for him, it seems, and after he has heard any given CD a few times, he really starts enjoying them even more due to being familiar with what's happening in the story.This Uncle Wiggily one may be the best one of our many that we own. Uncle Wiggily stories only came into my awareness recently as I read  Uncle Wiggily Bedtime Stories: In Easy-to-Read Type (Dover Children's Thrift Classics)  to my son a few months ago. The stories are ideal for four-year olds who are moving beyond picture books. They are whimsical and sweet without much dark or negative content (stories where characters face great peril are still too much of a challenge for this age group). The language used in these stories is neither too babyish nor too adult. I long to read Winnie the Pooh stories to my boy but the language is a little too winky and wry for this age.So, start with fantastic content in the stories themselves, and then record them with a fantastic reader, and that's what you have here. My only complaint is that there isn't a series of these CDs; there are hundreds and hundreds of Uncle Wiggily stories that are all in the public domain so please put some more of them on audio!For reference, here are the other stories on CD that have been well-loved in our house: Frog and Toad CD Audio Collection (I Can Read! - Level 2)  <-- that one especially Frances Audio Collection CD (I Can Read Book 2) The Mouse Tales CD Audio Collection (I Can Read! - Level 2) Arnold Lobel Audio Collection CD

All our kids have loved this CD. My 5 year old has the whole thing memorized he has listened to it so many times. This is the perfect audio book for kids just coming out of the audio books that actually have the books to accompany them with page turning signals into audio books the accompanying book. It is easy to understand and yet completely engaging.

I watched my four year old niece sit enchanted by the acts of gentle kindness of the old rabbit towards his fellow creatures. These are stories my sister and I loved as children. She is as mesmerized as we were.I am delighted these books are again available.I still have my own well-loved copy on the shelf.By the way, the illustrations are lovely.

Once I heard Jim Weiss telling the story of Uncle Wiggly I just knew I had to purchase this cd for my Grandson. I packaged the cd with the acutually book so he could follow along and the boardgame to add to the Uncle Wiggly theme and a small portable cd player, needless to say it's now one of his favorite games and stories, it all tied together nicely!

Very enjoyable. I'm glad the long-eared gentleman is still available to current youngsters. The reader has a VERY entertaining voice with inflections that keep little ones interested.

As always, Jim Weiss does a great job retelling these stories. My 6-year-old son loves listening to these over and over.

Wonderful stories read by Jim Weiss...remembered by my grown up daughter now a Mother listening to that voice she loved so well with her daughter.
